Be it known that 1, ABBA G. Bonnows, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jackson, in the county of Clarke and State 1 of Alabama, have invented a new and useful Well-Bucket Bottom, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in well buckets, and more particularly to the valve construction thereof. o The primary object of the invention is to provide a valve construction including a novel form of seat, which seat will abso lutely insure the seating of the valve at all times, regardless of the sediment contained in the fluid in which the bucket is operating. WVith the foregoing and other objects in iew which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the coinbination and arrangements of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 illustrates a side elevational view partly in section, of a well bucket bottom constructedin accordance with the present invention; and 1 Fig. 2 illustrates a sectional view taken on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 designates the side walls of the well bucket to which my invention is applied, the bottom 6 however being secured within the side walls 5 in the usual and. well known manner.
This bottom 6 is provided with a central circular opening 7 which forms the ,filling opening of the bucket, the upper portion of which s guarded by the cross bars 8 which have their respective ends seated in the cut out portions 9, formed in the upper edge of the bottom 6 adjacent the opening 7, the
bars crossing each other intermediate the lengths thereof in a manner to prevent material such as gravel, or other foreign matter from entering the bucket through the opening.

feature of the invention, includes a circular metallic plate 10, having a central openlng 11 which is of a diameter slightly less than the diameter of the opening 7 of the bottom 6, and as shown the valve seat 10 is concavoconvex in formation, the convex surface thereof forming the upper surface of the valve seat, while the concave surface thereof Patented Mar. 16, 1920.

j acent the periphery thereof, are a plurality of openings 12 which openings provide means for accommodating the screws 13 which secure the valve seat to the bottom 6 and absolutely prevent displacement of the valve seat with relation to the bottom 6.
Pivotally supported within the well bucket, and connected to the bottom 6 thereof, is the usual check valve 14: formed of suitable flexible material, and having a portion 15 of a size to substantially-cover the valve seat 10, the securing end thereof being fastened to the upper surface of the bottom G by means of the screws 16 passing through suitable openings in the plate 17 the points I of the screw being embedded in the bottom 6.
The plate 17, is of a length equal to the width of the check valve 14, adjacent its securing end, which plate distributes the wear throughout the width of the check valve 1%, which wear is directed thereto due to the pivotal movement of the flexible niaterial of which the same is formed, the plate thereby increasing the life of the valve proper.
From the foregoing it is obvious that due to the concavo-convex construction of the valve seat 10, the valve proper contacts with only a portion of the valve seat 10, at a point adjacent the upper edge of the Wall of the opening, portions of the check valve 14: adjacent the seat engaging portions thereof, lying in spaced relation with the valveseat so that foreign matter such as gravel, sand or thelike which might collect on the valve seat 10, could not contact with the check valve 1% to cause the same to remain unseated, after the bucket forming a part thereof, has been filled, which unseated valve going specificatiomthe detailed description as to the operation ofthe invention, step by 7 step is unnecessary;
