LAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Itatented Tatar. tit,
Application filed .Tune 5, 1919. Serial No. 301,898.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CECILE Lnrrr'rn, a citizen of France, anda resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Lamp, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact deseription.
This invention relates to a lamp, and aims more particularly to provide a device of this nature which shall be capable of being utilized as a bed light or which may be shaded so as to provide a night light, and which may be adaptable to the application of an ornamental figure to its framework so that the finished product may present a lamp which is highly ornamental and pleasing to the eye, as well as practical in all particulars.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a framework for a lamp which may have secured to it a socket positioned in such a manner that different globes may bereadilysubstituted one for the other and a new globe instantly substituted for a broken one.
A still further object of the invention is the provision ct a framework which shall be especially adapted for mounting a representation of a human figure, together with its associated clothes.
A final object of the invention is to provide a lamp incorporating as few parts as is consistent with strength.
Having these objects in mind, attention is invited to the accompanying drawings which represent one practical embodiment of my invention, and in which I Figure 1 is a front elevational view of my improved form of lamp with part of the clothes of the applied figure removed;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the supporting framework; and
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken through the globe socket and the supporting frame therefor.
In these figures, like reference numerals designate similar parts, and the reference numeral 1 indicates rods which have their lower ends coiled around a ring 2, or otherwise secured thereto, and extend thence upwardly and inwardly toward a common center, their upper ends being secured by any convenient method to an upper ring 3.
As shown, the rods 1 and rings 2 and 3 are preferably wrapped with cloth, so that that 11 ion current fiowhn through b e atching any of the projci'rting parts of he it rods or rings is eliminated Positioned below the upper rin 3. I. suspended therefrom by means ot upper ing wires l, which are adapted to he looped around the ring 3 and the upper ends of the o rods 1, is a socket 5, which is formed wit/l openings G through which the wires l are adapted to pass and to have their outer ends preferably looped around one of the rods 1 adjacent its end portion. In connection wi'h Ti this structure. I wish it understood, how ever, that any suitable supporting inc for a socket may be utilized, but .i found, keeping simplicity and, consetpie..." economy in mind. that the above suspending i means is preferably adaptable in connection with the socket.
-Resting upon the ring 3 is the base 2' f a doll 8, )referably of china, reprcsenti human gure. This base is prcferab vided with openings 9, extendin rom side walls through to its lower race, and wires 10, or other suitable lacing means, are adapted to be passed through the openings 9. and around the upper. ring 3 whereby to 8 firmly secure the doll 8 in position upon such ring.
In connection with. the lamp which ii in tend to construct, l prov'de a dress 11 which may be entirely closed and which given he as doll the appearance of wearing a hoop A wire 12, which may be provided with a switch (not shown), is connected with the socket 5 for supplying electric current, so 1 a globe 13 is applied to the socket for illiu'ninating purposes.
In operation it will now be appreciated socket 5 to the attached globe 13, a will be produced within the dress l. globe 13 may be tinted as desired, and the dress 11 may be produced in any number of color designs, which will be extremely pleas ing to the eye and produce a beautiful col effect which may blend harmoniously win the general furnishings of the room in which it is adapted to he placed.
If it is desired to utilize the lamp as reading lamp, instead of as a night lamp, the same may he used by an occupant of the room without having the light disturb any one else, by either lifting a portion of the dress 11 upwardly along the frame, or having the dress capable of being parted and rotate the entire figure so that the light shines in the general direction deslred.
It is to be appreciated that any number of modifications of construction may be resorted to without in the least departmg from the scope of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, I desire to claim:-
LA lamp, including an upper ring, a larger lower .rin rods extending between such upper and lower rin s, a socket-suspended below and secure to such upper ring, a doll secured to such upper ring and above the same, and a dress extending from said doll downwardly to the lower ring and around the rods.
2. A lamp, including an upper ring, a lar er lower ring, rods extending between suc 11 per and lower rin s, a socket suspende below and secure to such upper ring, a doll, representing the upper portion of a human figure, secured to such upper ring and above the same, and a dress extending from said doll downwardly to the lower ring and around the rods.
3. A lamp, including an upper ring, a lower ring of larger diametei than the upper ring, rods extending between such uper and lower ring, a socket having openings extending through its base, looped wires adapted to be passed around the upper ring, said wires extending downwardly and through the openings in the base of the socket and having their outer ends secured to such rods adjacent their upper ends.
, A lamp, including an upper and a v such openings and around the upper ring adapted to retain thedoll in applied position.
5. A lamp, including an upper ring and a lower ring, supportlng means extending between such upper and lower rings, a socket suspended below and secured to the upper .ring, and a doll figure arranged above the upper'ring, the dress of said doll extending downwardly to a'point adjacent the lower ring. 1
6. Alamp, including a doll, means for supporting such doll, and a lamp suspended below the body portion of the doll, the dress of such doll being normally adapted to inclose such lamp.
7. A lam including a framework, a socket attac 1ed to the same, a doll figure supported by said framework, the dress of the doll being adapted to encircle the frame.
