CHARLES H. EDDY, or ATTLEBORQ, MASSACHUSETTS.
COMBINED SHADE AND CURTAIN IE.IX.'J.URI5I.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented D1 1, 9 1920,
Application filed December 18, 1917. Serial No. 207,774.
1 '0 all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. EDDY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro, in the county of Bristol, State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Shade and Curtain Fixtures; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, 10 such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in removable curtain and shade fixtures for windows and particularly to devices of-this character which do not require the use. of nails or screws. One object of the present invention is to provide an improved device of this character which is so constructed that the at tachment thereof to the frame or casing of a window can be accomplished in a small space of time and which is capable of adjustment to fit any window frame and for. 26 any len th of shade and curtain pole.
Anotfie'r object is to provide a device of this character wherein the major portion of the fixture is formed from a single metal blank.
\ parent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing. v
In the drawing:
Figure l is a front elevation of the invention applied to a window casing, and supporting a shade and curtain pole.
Fig. 2 is a verticalsectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the fixtures removed from the window.
Fig. 4 is a lan view of the blank from which the ma or portion of the device is formed.
Other objects and advantages will be apto the body at 13, and the outer end of said.
tab is bent downwardly at right angles to the tab and formed with the tangs 14 which are adapted to bite into the upper face of the before-mentioned heading of thewindow casing. Formed integrally on the outer vertical edge of the body is a tab, 15 which is bent inwardly onto the face of the body portion and is cylindrical in cross section.
The tab is thus in the formv of a-vertical tubular socket into which is disposed the inner vertical portion of the shank of the hook member 16/ This hook member is preferably Z-shaped and has its vertical outer portion 17 adapted to be received in a vertical opening formed in one end of the section 18 of the tubular and telescoping curtain pole D.
Struck out from the body,'directly below the socket member 15, is a shade pintle receiving bracket arm 19. From the lower edge of the other end of the body there is bent outwardly an apertured lu 20 in which is engaged one end of a coil spring 21. Connected to the other end of this spring is a hook 22 the bill of which is provided with a sharp point for bitin enga ement in the lower face of the hea ing 0 the window casing.
From an inspection of the drawing, it will be seen that the elements above described, are duplicated at the other side of the window, and are exactly like those just described, except that the shade bracket arm is provided with an open-ended slot 23 for the flat pintle of the shade roller 24. a
Themanner of applying the fixtures to the window casing will be readily under- A stood'from the drawin and it is not thought necessary to explain t e same herein.
Struck out from the edge of the blank above the tab 15 is a second shorter tab 15 which is arranged to extend at right angles from the face of the body of the device and serve as a stop to prevent the outwardly 1s)winging movement of the Z-shaped memers.
What is claimed is:
A sheet metal blank for forming a combined window shade and curtain fixture comprising an elongated body having a pair of tapering tongues extending from one of the longer sides thereof, the terminals of the tongues beingformed with prongs, the edge of the body between the tongues being inwardly curved. an apertured tab formed on the other side of the body and adjacent one end, a pair of tabs formed on one end of the body and of diflerent lengths and in close' proximity to each other, a projection formed on the other end of the longer side of the body remote from the apertured tab and havlng an elongated member extending longitudinally of the body and separated by a line of cut in the semblance of a compound curve, the outer edge of said member being 10 similarly cut, the same member having an aperture in its outer end.
' In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses. CHARLES H. EDDY.
