Application fiieu'siiieihtei' 24,1919. s r l meaassi Toall whom-it may con-gem Be it' kno'wnthat mama D. 'TETREAU and ALBERT TETREAU, citizens of the United States, residing at Sanford, in the county of York and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in .Filling-Strippers for Looms, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to looms, particularly to attachments therefor, and has for its object the provision of a devicewhereby the filling or last layer or so of thread upon Y the 100111 bobbins may be caught and wound moved, and
onto a receiving bobbin without the necessity of cutting the filling.
An importantand more specific ob]ect is the provision of a rotary shaft mounted upon a loom and driven by the mechanism thereof and a normally contracted bobbin engaged upon and held in expanded position broadly by the-numeral 21 and this bobbin by the shaft for receiving the filling, the. V bobbin being so constructed that when re- 'moved from the shaft it will contract to permit'the filling wound thereon to slide off.
Another object is the provision of a device of'this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture, easy to install, ellicient and durable in service, and a general improvement-in theart.
With the above and other objects and ad vantages in view, the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illus trated in the accompanying-drawings, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of the device, Fig. 2 is an elevation of the bobbin re- Fig. 3' is a cross sectional view through the bobbin on the 1ine 33 of Fig. 2.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the letter A designates a portion of the frame of a Stafford loom. In carrying out our invention,-we provide a block .10 secured upon the frame A by a suitable bolt 11 which also serves to secure upon the block 10 a bearing bracket 12. Also secured upon the frame A in spaced relation to the block 10 is a bracket 13 held by a suitable bolt 14:.
Journaled through the bracket 13 is shaft 15 which is provided at one end with a reduced extension 16 journaled in the bracket 12 and which has its other end free and tapered as shown at 17. A collar 18 is secured upon the shaft 15 and bears against upon,
the bracket 13 for? preventing longitudinal V In COIlJllIlCtIlOIl with the mechanism above described 'we use a bobbin designated is formed from a tapered shell 22 longitudinally split at intervals as shownfat 23and I grovided at one end, the larger, with a" ange 24L. By this construction the bobbin, which may be of thin wood ormetal, is ex, pansible though it is normally in contracted form'as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. a
In the use of the device, the'smaller end of the bobbin is slipped onto the free end of the shaft 15 and slid onto the tapered portion of the shaftwhereupon the bobbin will be expanded into cylindrical form, as shown in Fig. 1. The filling or last layer or so of thread remainin on abobbin (not shown). of the loom, is t en led onto. thebobbin 22 and as this bobbin 22 is rotated by the mechanism. previously described, the filling will be wound thereon. When the bobbin 22 is filled, it is slid off from the shaft 15, whereowing to its natural tendency, the bobbin 22 will contract so that the thread or filling wound thereonto may be readily slipped off. 7 v I From the foregoing description and a study of the drawings, it will be apparent that we have thus provided a. very simple and efiicient power driven filling stripping device which is readily operable, Which will be a great time and labor saver in removing V v the filling without cutting it and whic will efficiently perform all the functions for g which it is intended.
ile we have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it
will of course be readily understood that 00 l adapted to have thread wound'thereonto, 0
the bobbin having va normally contracted core held in expanded osition by its engagement upon said sha t.
7 free end, in Combination Witha 'bobbinhav ing a normally contractile core engaged upon said'shaft and expanded by its en 2. A device of the character described comprising a rotary shaft having a tapered gagement over said tapered end,
3. A device of the character described comprising a rotary shaft having a tapered free end, and a bobbin engageable upon the shaft by sliding-over saidtapered end, said mit slidingofi" of the filling wound thereonto.
"In "testimony whereof we hereto aflix'our 20 signatures. a
