SARK-PLUG.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 2, 1920.,
Jie/om I? may conform leiden, in the comity of Cumberland olf New' Jersey, have invented cerd useful improvements in Sparitlo hereby dee-lare that the followifull, clear. and exact description is a ect ol my invention the provision plug tor internal combustion eni wich will afford the advantages ot ual clcanness, and quick and hot furxlli sin..
Y and hans utilize to the maximum the of the gasulene, and so conduce to economy ot luel consinnption and increased `)wer therefrom, and to this end my inventif consists in a. spark plug having the cons ruetion suliistantially as hereinafter specif l claimed.
e annexed drawings l is side elevation, with parts in 'i a spark plug embodying my init comprises a shell or casing 10, f' screw into the cylinder and form ,omni connection, and a central elecuitably insulated from the shell inding post lf2 ttor the usual 'l b, e, conn ction. The sparking terminal 13 oi? the een ral electrode is bent4 outward towurfil the rim ot the grounded shell so that the current will pass from the tip said terminal to said shell, and l also provide u ground terminal in the form oi? a bent Y o 1d, attached te and projecting from ui known that l, RAYMOND H. HAND,
the shell rim, with its free end close to the angle or elbow of the center electrode where it is bent to form the terminal 13. The current through the central electrode divides so that simultaneously, two independent sparks are produced, one between the tip of the terminal 13 and the shell 10, and the other between the terminal elbow and the linger le. The finger 14 is preferably of rounded wire, while the terminal 18 is liattened, to form a comparatively wide surface, as I find that by such a form, I get agreater spark than when a round electrode is used.
The gap betweenv the tip of the terminal 13 and shell is dia-metrically opposite the place of connection of th ground terminal 14 and the shell.
By simultaneous sparking, ignition takes place instantly at two points, which means more complete combustion of gasolene, with the results of greater cleanness of spark plugs, and, hence, assurance always of quick and hot sparks, economy of fuel, and greater power and liveliness for the engine.
l clainnw- A spark plug comprising a ground shell, an electrode insulated therefrom, having a terminal bent toward the rim of the shell, and a terminal reaching 'from the shell 4toward the elbow of the bent terminal, said RAYMOND H. HAND.
