EGG-SLICER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 24, 1920.
Application filed June 20, 1919. Serial No. 305,634.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAY Goran, subject 01 the King of England. residing at 1 inchland, New Zealand, have invented new and useful improvements in Egg-Slicers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of the invention is to provide a culinary utensil for use in trying eggs and like, the device being of such a character that a frying may be raised by it from the skillet and the ragged edges of the white trimmed oil by the proper manipulation of a cutter carried by the device.
The further purpose of the invention is to provide a culinary utensil which is simple in construction, durable and effective in the work for which it is designed and ineXpensive to manufacture.
The invention is illustrated and described in a specific embodiment to which, however, it is not to be restricted. The right is reserved to make such changes or alterations as the actual reduction to practice may sug gest in so far as such changes or alterations are compatible in spirit with the annexed claims.
In the accompanying Figure 1 is a view in improved utensil.
Fig. 2 .is a top of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a detailed plan view of a portion of the handle. wherein there is mounted a device for operating the cutting element of the invention.
Referring to the drawings, the invention is shown as comprising a plate 1. This plate is preferably circular in shape and is provided with the perforations 2, as well as with an arm portion 3. which extends in a radial direction from the plate, but is turned at an angle therewith. The arm portion 8 at its extremity carries a handle t so that the device may be used conveniently.
drawings: side elevation of the plan view of the structure A cutter ring 5 is carried by the plate 1- and is attached to the arm portion of the latter adjacent the point where the arm portion connects with the plate, the means of attachment being in the form of a fiat spring 6. which is secured both to the ring 5 and to the arm 3. The spring tends normally to keep the ring 5 down against the plate 1, in which po ition the ring would cut ofi the edges of the white of an eggs, were an egg upon the plate. The obiect of the invention is effected by raising this ring against the pressure of the spring while being inserted beneath the egg, thereafter being dropped upon the egg to out the white as before described. To provide for raising the ring so that an egg be scooped up by the plate 1, a resilient arm 7 is employed, one end of this arm being pivotally connected to the ring as indicated at 8. The arm adjacent the other end is formed with a slot 9, opening on one edge, and this slot may be engaged by a laterally movable pin 10 which. is passed into a trans versely disposed slot 11, formed in the arm 3. The pin is formed with a head at both ends to secure it in the slot 11.
The pin 10 may be moved laterally to that end of the slot 11 nearest the edge of the armB. The ring 5 may then be raised to a position in which it stands in a plane substantially vertical to the plane of the plate 1, this raising of the ring being effected by drawing back on the resilient arm 7, or by raising the ring by'hand. The resilient arm 7 is thus caused to bear down against the top face of the arm 3 and, as the ring 5 is raised, this arm is caused to ride up the handle until when the ring is in substantially vertical position slot 9 in the arm will be in registration with the slot 11 in the ring when the pin 10 may be moved laterally toward the inner end of the slot 11, in which position the pin will also engage the slot the plate is the mug 9 and the arm 7 will be held in the position to which it has been moved.
When the egg has been cooked it is raised from the skillet by inserting the plate 1 under it, the ring 5 at this time being in the raised position. So soon as the egg is on the plate 1, the stud 11 is moved laterally again in the opposite direction from that in which it was previously moved, this movement being eifected by grasping the two heads of the stud between the fingers. When the stud 10 reaches the outer extremity of its slot 11, the pin will be free of the slot 9 and the arm 7 will therefore be released, when it and the spring 6 serve to throw the ring down against the plate 1, the edge of the ring shearing off the edges of the white of the and leaving the latter round so that it pre ents a neat appearance when brought to the table.
The invention having been described, what is claimed as new and useful is:
1. A utensil of the kind described comprising a plate formed with means by which it may be handled, a ring, means for mounting the ring on the plate so that it may swing down against the latter or into a po sition substantially vertical with the latter, and means for holding the ring in substantially vertical position and releasing it to permit its being thrown down against the plate for the useful purpose specified.
2. A utensil of the kind described, comprising a plate, a ring, a flat spring securing the ring to the plate and tending to force the ring down against the plate, and means for holding the ring in a substantially Vertical position With reference to the plate, said means being releasable to permit the springs throwing the ring down against the plate for the useful purpose specified.
3. A utensil of the kind described, comprising a plate formed with an arm, a ring, a resilient element attaching the ring to the plate, a resilient arm having one end pivotally attached to the ring, the arm connecting it to the plate, having a transversely disposed elongated slot formed therein, the resilient arm having a slot formed therein and opening at one edge, and a stud formed with a head at each end, the stud passing through the slot in the first said arm and, being engageable and disengageable with the slot in the resilient specified.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature MAY GOLBY.
