, To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,.-\Nonow A. JoIiANsoN,
residing at Cordova, Territory of Alaska,
a well known tin can used for containing evaporated milk, it being customary in the use of such cans to merely punch two holes with some convenient implement instead of removing the top of the can as 18 done with cans of other materials.
An important object is the provision of a device of this character which Wlll be very simple and inexpensive in manufacture,
which will itself support a can while the top thereof is being punched, which will consequently be easy to operate, eilicient in service, durable in use, and a general improvement in the art.
lVith the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1 with the can removed,

Referring more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 10 designates the relatively stationary portion of the device which is formed as a vertical support 11 formed arcuate in cross section and provided with holes 12 adapted for the passage of screws or the like whereby the device may be secured upon the wall. At its lower end, the support 10 has formed thereon or secured thereto, a circular platform 13 which is provided with holes v14: adapted for the assage'of screws or the like whereby the evice may be se- Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional viewcured upon a table or shelf instead of a wall, if preferred. At its juncture with the platform 13, the support 10 is enlarged and widened, as shown at 15, whereby to provide flanges engageable by the perlphery of a milk can A, whereby the can will be centered upon the platform 13. At. its upper end, the support 11 has formed thereon a hearing eye 16 adapted for the reception of a pivot pin or bo t 17 extending through the spaced arms 18 formed on the end of a punch member 19 which is formed circular in shape with a hollow center and which has its diametrically opposite portion elongated to provide a shank 20 secured within the end of a handle 21. By this construction it will be seen that the punch member 19, together withthe handle 21 may be swung in a ver tical plane upon the pivot bolt 17, as an axis.
At their sides, the arms of the punch member 19 have formed thereon laterally extending ears 22 which are apertured for the passage of rivet members 23 or the like formed on the upper ends of conical penetrating members 24 which extend downwardly below the punch member 19 and which are arcuate in shape, as shown, with their axes concentric with the pivot point 17 The supporting member 10 and the platform 13, and also the punch member 19, may 'be formed of sheet metal, stamped and bent to proper form, if desired, though it will be understood'that the parts may be cast or otherwise formed, if desired, it being a non essential part of the invention,

In the operation of the device, the can A to be punched or opened, 'is set upon the platform 13 with its periphery engaging against the supporting member 11, it being understood that the punch member 19 and handle 21 are initially so swung forwardly that the penetrating members 24 will be in non obstructing position with relation to the can. After the can is thus positioned, the operator grasps the handle 21 and forces the same downwardly, whereupon the penetrating members 24 will enga e and then enter the top of the can at d iametrically opposite pointswhereby to form two holes therein, one serving for the admission of air and the other serving as a discharge opening for the contents of the can. From the foregoing description and a study of the drawings, it will be apparent that I have thus-provided anextremely simple device which will. be inexpensive in manufacture, which may be readily and easily attached to a table, shelf, wall, or other support, and which is operable whereby to punch two holes in the top of a can of evaporated milk and the like.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is of course to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction, and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim v A device of the character described comprising a vertical support, a circular horizontal platform on the lower end of said support, the juncture of said support with punch member in the nature of an open centered yoke having at one side arms straddlin and 'pivotally connected With said bearing eye, said yoke being provided at a point opposite said arms with a shank, a handle engaged upon said shank, and a pair of penetrating members extending from the underside of said punch member at diametrically opposite sides thereof, said penetrating members being arcuate in shape with their axes concentric with said pivot point.
