Description
G. D. BREMNER.
ATTACHMENT FOR CIGAR BOXES.
APPLICATION FILED NOV- I9, I919- Patented Feb. 17, 1920.
Z MENTOR A TTORNE f8 WITNESSES GEORGE DQBREMNER, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
ATTACHMENT FOR CIGAR-BOXES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 17, 1920.
Application filed November 19, 1919. Serial No. 339,229.
To all whom it may concern Be itknown that I, GEORGE D. BREMNER, acitizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in th county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Attachment for Cigar-Boxes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to display devices and has particular reference to attachments for cigar boxes or the like having in view a number of important novel and useful features and advantages among which are: First, a simple and reliable means for holding the lid of a cigar box in upright or substantially upright position for the display of the trade name that may appear on the inner face thereof and so as to occupy the least amount of room in the show case or the like; secondly, a device serving to hold a price mark or its equivalent; thirdly, a receptacle for matches, and fourthly the provision of a device of the nature set forth that can readily be stamped or formed from a single piece of sheet metal or its equivalent and with a minimum amount of waste of the material.
. lVith the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed, and while the invention is not restricted to the exact details of construction disclosed or suggested herein. still for the purpose of illustrating a. practical embodiment thereof reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which like reference characters designate the same parts in the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view indicating one adaptation of my improvement.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the attachment.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same looking toward the left in Fig. 2.
Fig. 4: is a plan view of the blank after it is stamped, but prior to folding or shaping.
Referring now more specifically to the drawings I show my improvement as comprising a single piece of material cut or stamped from sheet material such as brass or its equivalent and comprising three main portions namely, a receptacle 10, a clasp 11, and a brace 12.
The receptacle is in the nature of an open topped rectangular box having a bottom 13, end walls 14;, and front and rear walls 15 and 16 respectively. These four walls are adapted to be bent upward perpendicular to the bottom panel 13 so as to form a substantially tight receptacle except for the open top and a cut-out 15 in the front panel 15 between its ends for the purpose of facilitating the extraction of matches or the like from the receptacle.
The clasp 11 comprises two side wing portions 17 and 18 connected by a web 19. The portion 17 consists of an upward extention of one end of the rear wall 16 and is adapted to lie substantially flat against the front or inner surface of the lid L of the box 13 when in use. The wing 18 lies fiat against the rear or upper surface of the lid L, while the web 19 connecting the two wings is adapted to lie snug against the edge of the lid. The character of the material from which the device is made adapts the clasp for frictional grip upon the lid for the purpose of holding the attachment thereto and in place for its several functions.
At the upper end of the wing 17 is a lip extension 20 bent forward and downward to serve as a means for frictionally holding a card, ticket or the like bearing a price mark or its equivalent as indicated in Fig. 1.
The brace 12 constitutes a downward extension of the rear wing 18, and to stiffen the same the material is formed in a channel shape as plainly indicated in the drawings. This portion of the device is adapted to bear against the rear panel of the box B and so limit the rearward swing of the lid at a point about or slightly beyond the vertical, or in the most advantageous position for display purposes. The material, however, is of a flexible nature and hence the operator may easily vary the angle at which the lid will be held. The same remarks apply to the connection between the front wing 17 of the clasp and the rear vertical wall 16 of the receptacle lO so that in whatever position the lid may be suppo rted the vertical Wall will rest substantially upon the upper edge of the boxrB and s0 prevent the forward; m Vement cfthelid L {110111 the desired pesiticn 5 in which it i's to be held.
I claim ment with the back wall of the box 7 M the openingmoyement 01; the lid. In a boX attachment, a unitary device combox lid, a, receptacle for holding matches and serving as amea ns-teflpl event the clos- 111g-0f the 11d, and a rea ybrace for engageto limit GEORGE D. BREMNER.
