Be. it known that I; LEON S. GREENBERG, of the city of Newarlgcounty of Essex, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and usefullmprovements in Molding- Flasks, of which the following is a full,

The'molding flask as illustrated in'Fig. 1 is composed of a bottom pieceorreceptacle 1, middlepiece 2, and atop piece or plate 3.

is detachably fastened or locked to bottom piece- 1 and to top plate 3 by means of a multiple of double headed locking pins 11,

Middle piece2 is provided with projections 10, 10 and'10, and on the upper portion thereof respectively are provided three elongated shoulders'7 7 and 7 of a shape to correspond and fit the recesses provided on top plate 3 within projections or prongs 4 14*,an'd 4 respectively. 1, is also provided, integral therewith, with the herein before mentioned three shoulders :83; 8", and"8 on the under portion of projections '10, 10,'. and 10 respectively, of similar elongated shape but slightly longer than shoulders7,"7 and 7 c in order to correspond with the thickness of bottom piece 1 and made to fit recesses provided within projections 5 5 and 5, on bottom piece 1. A hole is provided through each projection 10*, 10 and 10 and the corresponding shoulders on bothupper and under sides thereof, through'which locking pins 11, 11
" and 11 respectively are inserted. These locking pins are each provided on the upper ends thereof with elongated heads 6, 6 and 6 respectively, and on the lower ends with similar heads-9 9 and 9, Figs. 1 and 3.
' These heads are firmly riveted, pinned, or otherwise immovably attached to the locking pins, making what are called double headed locking pins, all ofthe same general shape, and madeto fit their respective recesses snugly,i so: that whenthey are turned with" the fingers "the device 'is securely and firmly locked. The turning of one-head reciprocally turns the oppositehead, and'lthus :the device may be; locked or unlocked as" de- "sired. In use my improved molding flask, after preparing the mold, is assembled by looking the bottom piece 1 to middle piece 2, into which'the moldis then placed, after which top plate 3 is placed on middle piece 2, and the three pieces are locked by simply turning- '-with the fingers each of the double headed locking pins 11 11, and 11, by
using the upper heads 6, 6 and 6 thereof. A turn of any pin head causes a corresponding motion or turn of the opposite head.
For use in casting metals it would be necessary to provide a'passage or opening in top plate 3 of any usual shape through which the molten metal would be poured. The
-jointsbetween the several pieces will readily provide for the escape of any gas that may form inthe mold when making such casting. To unlock the device, again turn each pin-head parallel to therecesses, and top plate 3 may then be removed exposing the casting, and'another turnof each double headed locking pin locks the middle piece 2 and bottompiece 1 again, which cannot be accomplished with other known'flasks, and
work may 'be'performed onthe casting in 'thatposition, orit maybe entirely removed. Various changes within the scope of the invention defined in the following claims may be made inthe particularconstruction 'ofthe device and also in the size and organization of the piecesthereof without depart- --ing from the spirit of my invention, such as-the addition of another ring to make a higher molding fiask which is sometimes desirable. 7 -'-I'-am aware that prior to my invention vulcanizing or molding flasks have been made comprising top, bottom and .middle p-ieces'of the same general shape, and'for "the sameuse as mine, but not with the peculiar shape and special features thereof, or

1. In a molding flask of the character described, the combination of a bottom piece,
a middle piece, a top piece, and a plurality of locking pin means constructed so that either end of any pin when moved reciprocally turns the other end, for holding said pieces together, as and for the purpose described.
2. In a molding flask of the character described, the combination of a plurality of receptacle pieces, and a plurality of double headed locking pins constructed so that either end of any pin when moved reciprocally turns the other end, for locking and unlocking said pieces, substantially as described.
3. A molding flask comprising a bottom piece, a top plate, a middle piece provided with a plurality of extended portions containing a hole through each, a plurality of locking pins one eachpassing through respective holes for locking top and bottom pieces to said middle piece, substantially 4. A molding flask comprising a bottom piece provided with a plurality "of recesses in extended portions thereof and also provided with a depressed portion, a middle piece provided with a projection corresponding to and fitting in said depressed portion of bottom-piece, and also providedwith a plurality of extended portions with a-plurality" of shoulders one each projecting from the upper and lower sides of said extended portlons, a plurality of double headed locking pin means, one each passingthrough respective? holes which holes are provided through eachof said shoulders and extended portions,'a top plate provided with a plurality of recesses one each in extended portions thereof corresponding to shape of shoulders, substantially as and for the purpose described.
6. A molding flask comprising a bottom piece provided with a plurality of projec tions each containing a recess therein, said projections being raised from the underside of bottom piece a sufiicient distance to allow the heads of locking pins to freely turn when the device is assembled, and also provided with a depressed portion, a middle piece provided with a projection correspondto and fitting in said depressed portion of bottom piece, and also provided with a plurality of extended portions and with a plurality of shoulders one each projecting from the upper and lower sides of said extended portions, with a hole through each of said shoulders and extended portions, a
top plate provided with a plurality of extended portions and with a plurality of re cesses one in each pair of extended portions thereof corresponding to shape of shoulders, and a plurality of double headed locking pins one each passing through said holes to lock the top plate and bottom piece to the middle piece substantially as and for the purpose described.
7 A molding flask comprising a bottom piece provided with a pluralityof projections each containing a recess therein said projections being raised from the under side of bottom piece a sufiicient distance to allow the heads of locking pins to freely turn when the device is assembled, and also provided with a depressed portion, a middle piece provided with a projection corresponding to and fitting in said depressed portion of bottom piece, said middle piece being also provided with a plurality of extended portions, and with a plurality of shoulders one each projecting from the upper and lower sides of said extended portions, a top plate provided with a plurality of recesses one each in extended portions thereof corresponding to shape of shoulders, and also provided with a plurality of slightly thickened portions on top of each prong of extended portions, and a plurality of double headed looking pins to lock bottom piece and top plate to middle piece, substantially as and for the purpose described.
