SHADE AND CURTAIN-PLE HOLDER.
Application mea october 4, 191e.' serial No. 323,354. y
T0 all whom t may concern:
Be it known that l, JOHN Tio-FT, citizen of the United States, residing at 206 Vood street, Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful `Improvements in Shade and Curtain-Pole Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to combined shade and curtain pole holders. The object of the invention is to support a curtain pole and a shade roller, allowing for proper adjustment of the shade roller Supporting brackets, and
also to provide for the holding of either end of the shade roller by the supporting bracket.
With these objects in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims, and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which i Figure 1 is a front elevation.
Fig. 2 is' an edge view.
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation.
Fig. 4 is a section on the line l--i of Fig. 1.
The device, which is duplicated on opposite sides of the window casing, consists in a metal plate 1 arranged vertically upon the upper portion of the casing as shown in Fig. 1. This plate has an offset portion 2 adjacent its lower end. In this offset portion and held between the plate 1 and the window casing are superimposed plates 3 and 5, arranged transversely to the plate l, and slidable in the offset portion 2. At the inner end of plate 3 is an outwardly turned flange member t suitably slotted or cut to hold one end of a window shade roller. The under plate 5 has a similar flange, turned in the opposite direction, as at 6, and suitably cut or perforated to hold the other end of a shade roller. These plates are adjustable with respect to each other, and by means of this construction double shades, for example one of opaque material and one of translucent material, may be supported, or only one shade can be used and either end supported on the right or left hand of the window.
Both plates 3 and 5 are longitudinally slotted as at 7 and a retaining screw 8 works through the offset portion 2 and through said slots thereby locking the two plates in their adjusted positions. y
At its upper end the plate 1 carries a forwardly extending rod 9 the forward portion of which is bent into two half loops or circles 10, slightly spaced apart.
Upon this forward portion of the rod is pivoted an upper member 11 also bent to form two half loops, adapted to register with the loop portions l0. rl`he member 11 is pivoted at 12, between the half loop portions, to the rod 9. By swingingthe member 11 at lright angles to the rod 9 poles can be laid in the loop portions 10, and then locked in position by turning the member 11 back into parallel relationship with the rod 9, tightening the screw 12 which lforms the pivot for the member 11.
lt will be noted therefore that this simple holder provides for the retaining in proper position of two shade rollers, and two curtain poles, one for the regular curtains, and one for draperies, or one of each only may be used, in which case allowance is made for spacing them with respect to each other and the window, for example the shade roller mightbe placed in the ange member 6 and the curtain pole in the-outer loop or bow 10, thereby increasing the distance between the curtains and the shade, in fact a number of i combinations or arrangements are provided for without removing the holder from position. l
The nut 8a is provided for the screw 8 as the plate 1 would not in practice be thick enough to cut threads in.
What l claim is l. ln a device of the kind described, a plate having an oset portion, longitudinally slotted plates working transversely through said offset portion, oppositely turned anges carried by the last mentioned plates and adapted to hold end portions of shade rollers, means for locking the said plates in position, and curtain 'pole support-- ing means carried bythe first mentioned plate.
2. In a device of the kind described, a vertically arranged plate having an offset porf tion, shadel roller supports adjustably held in said offset portion, a rod projecting outwardly from the upper part of the plate, the outer end portion of the rod being bent to form two loop members opening upwardly, and a member pivotally mounted on said outer end portion of the rod and bent to forni downwardly open loops adapted to register with the loop `portions of the rod, as and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a device of the kind described, a casing plate, a forwardly projecting rod carried by the plate and having semi-loop portions formed therein, a pole locking niember carried by the rod and having coperatng semi-loop portions, the locking member being pivoted between the semi-loop portions of the rod, and two superimposed plates adapted to work transversely with respect to 10 the casing plate, said plates having oppostely extending flanges, the flange of one plate being adapt-ed to hold one end of a shade roller and the flange of the other plate being adapted to hold the opposite end of the shade roller, said plates being longitudinally adj ustableacross the casing plate with respect to each other. y
In testimony whereof I aHiX my signature.
JOHN TEFT.
