Description

J. KAPFER.
TOY VEHICLE. APPLICATION FILED AUG-II, 1919.
Patented Feb. 10,1920.
JOSEPH KAPFER, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
TOY VEHICLE.
Specification of Letters Batent.
Application filed August 11, 1919. Serial No. 316,535.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH KAPFER, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Toy Vehicles, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is a toy vehicle which in motion resembles the movement of an object upon the water.
I This object is attained by the means described in the specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1, is a longitudinal sectional view of a toy embodying my invention.
Fig. 2, is a side elevation thereof.
Fig. 3, is a sectional view taken upon lin 83 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4, is a detail perspective view of the sounding device.
The platform A of the vehicle has a central longitudinal slot across which is mounted a pivot rod 6, which extends through a lug b which extends centrally downward from the floating object B. 'Atone end of the object a link D is pivoted, as at d, the opposite end of the link being eccentrically pivoted at cl to a wheel a of the vehicle. The link extends through a longitudinal slot a in the platform.
Secured around the edges of the platform and extending thence loosely to the body B, is a sheet of flexible material such as canvas or duck E, upon which representations of waves are printed.
In use when it is moved along the ground, the rotation of the wheel rocks the object upon the pivot rod 6 and the-object imparts a series of constantly changing undulations to the flexible material, so that theundulations thereof combined with the representations of waves thereon give the impression of waves upon a body of water and cause the object to have the appearance of riding upon the waves.
Mounted between the body and the platform is a sounding device which is actuated by the movement of the article or body B. A preferred embodiment of the sounding device is a horn comprising abox G, and a bellows 9. Box G has perforations g and 9 in the former of which is located a reed or other vibratory device and the latter of which leads into the bellows, which is connected to object B, so that it is expanded and contracted by it, in its expansion draw- Patented Feb. 10, 1920.
ing air into box G and on contracting expolling it and vibrating the sounding device. The sound of the device is muflied by the cover E and causes it to resemble a sound upon the water. 7
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. In a toy vehicle the combination of a vehicle, an article mounted upon the vehicle, means adapted to impart a rocklng motion to the article and a sheet of flexible material secured to the vehicle and to the article extending loosely between them. and permitting a rocking movement of the article upon the vehicle.
2. In a toy vehicle the combination of a I vehicle, an article mounted upon the vehicle, 7
means adapted to impart a rocking motion to the article and a sheet of flexible material secured to the vehicle and to'the article extending loosely betweenthem and permitting a rocking movement of the article upon the vehicle and a sounding device located beneath the article and adapted to be actuated by the movement of the article.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name this 4th day of August, 1919.
JOSEPH KAPFER.
