To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED KROHN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Spokane, in the count-y of Spokane and State of ll/'ashington7 have invented new and useful Improvements in Ifireless Chicken-Broeders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to hovers or brooders of the tireless type.
It is one of the objects of this invention to provide a hover in which cold air is prevented from directly and horizontally entering the hover chamber from beneath the usual depending curtain, and therefore my invention provides for an upstanding outer inclosure which will permit the air to ingress vertically downwardly between the curtain and the inclosure. A further feature consists in providing closable ingress and egress openings in the outer inclosure portion whereby' the chicks may enter or depart therethrough, but wherein such openings may be closed when it is desired to coop the chicks in said hover, the space between the outer inclosure and the curtain always serving as a Ventilating space.
In accordance with my invention, a portion of the hover chamber is formed by heattransmitting wall sections in direct contact with which is a hot water container whereby the heat therefrom will be directly transmitted to said wall sections.
A further object of this invention is to provide a hover structure which will be selfcontained and in which a base is provided upon which is mounted the remainder of the structure, the hot water container being freely removable from the hover, for refilling purposes, without either disorganizing the structure or unduly changing its teinperature.
Other features and objects will be more fully described in connection with the accompanying drawing and will be more fully pointed out in and by the appended claims.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view illus trating the preferred forni of broeder, according to my invention, with the hot water container in elevation.
Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof.

which rises a wall 2 which forms an outer inclosure portion. Ingrese and egress open-l ings 3, are provided in said outer inclosure wall 2 and the latter may have vertical guides 4 for the closures 5. The guides t may be angle-form, the flanges 6 coacting with flanges 7 for guiding the closures. The closures may be provided with flanges 8 to facilitate their manipulation.
It will be noted that the openingsare arranged to permit the chicks to walk into the hover on a horizontal level, this feature avoiding the necessity of training the chicks to go up inclines.
In the present form illustrated, which is annular, a circular hover chamber is indicated at 9. This chamber is formed in part by the base 1, a hollow vertical section 10, a supporting section 11 and a curtain 12. The hollow section 10 is tubular in form and the same is provided with vent openings 13 which are always open and free to permit of ingress and egress of air as will presently be described. The section 10 is provided with a flange 14: which may be removably mounted upon the base l to permit disassembling and readily cleaning the broeder. To this end, lugs 15 may be struck up from the base 1 so as to hold the section 10 in position and permit it Vto be readily lifted olf from the base 1. The supporting section 11, which may be formed integral with sec-- tion 10, flares therefrom in overhanging relation with respect to the base l and extends outwardly toward but in slightly spaced relation with respect to the wall 2 leaving an annular space 16 for ingress of air downwardly between the wall 2 and the curtain 12 and forming a roof-like top for the hover chamber. The outer marginal edge 17, of section 11, may be bent downwardly to form an attaching flange against which the curtain l2 may be secured in any desirable manner. The lower edge of the curtain 12 is suitably notched or slit, as at 18.l The sup porting section 11 inclines upwardly toward the outer edge 17 and Ventilating openings 19 are provided near the upper and outermost portion thereof. Thus the heated air will take a very slow circulating path in the direction indicated by the arrows, it being understood that very little circulation is desired, especially not such a movement of the air as wouldconstitute a draft. Thus the openings 19, which are the vent egress open ings, are relatively small compared to the relatively large ingress passage 16. 1t will also be seen that no foul air can pocket in the Lipper portion of the chamber 9, and also that the source of heat is applied at a safe distance inwardly with respect to the air intake. A hot water container 20 has an upper portion in the form of a truncated cone,'the upper portion terminating in a filling spout 21 having a cover 22. A suitable handle 23, provided with a bail E24, is connected with the container by ears :25. The lower portion 26, of the container, is shaped to fit the supporting section 11 so that the lower wall of the portion 26 will lie in flat abutting relation along the section 11 for a portion of the distance outwardly thereof. rl`he container has a cylindrical portion which inwardly telescopes and closes the upper part of vertical section 10 but does not close the vent openings 13. Thus for a portion of the length of section 10, the same will act as a heat transmitting surface. The bottom 28 will also act as a heat transmitting sur- 1tace and thus cold air which may float into section 10 through openings 13 will flow out through other openings 13 after being heated.' It is a feature of my invention to close certain openings 19, by covers 29, when it is desired to increase the rate of circulation of air. These covers 29 may take the form of fiat pieces of tin or paper and it' the right hand holes 19 are covered there will be a greater egress through the lett holes 19 and this will increase the circulation through section 10.
It will be noted that the greatest crosssection of the hot water container is centrally thereof and this will greatly reduce heat radiation although it is common in this kind of broeder, to lay a pillow over the container to prevent cooling of the water for a greater length of time. However in practice, I have found that the broeder will stay warm for a period of twelve hours with one fillingof the container.
It is believed that the advantages and utility of my invention will be fully understood from the foregoing description and while l have herein shown and described one specific form of my invention, I do not wish to be limited thereto except for such limitations as the claims may import.
I claim:

A tireless broeder comprising a base having an upstanding outer inclosure portion provided with ingress and egress openings for the chicks passage into and out of said inclosure portion, an inner inclosure portion having a heater supporting section overhanging said base and forming a rooflike top and having a curtain depending from the upper portion of said section in spaced relation interiorly of said inclosure portion and forming therewith a hovering chamber with the space between said curtain and said inclosure portion acting as a ventilating space, and a hot water container shaped to spread over a portion of the upper surface of said supporting section to heat the latter and transmit heat therethrough to said chamber.
2. A tireless brooder comprising a base having an unstanding outer inclosure portion provided with ingress and egress openings for the chicks passage into and out of said inclosure portion, an inner inclosure portion. having arhollow vertical section extending upwardly from said base and said inner portion having a supporting section extending in overhanging relation with said base and toward but not to said outer inclosure portion, said supporting section having a depending curtain forming with said base and said inner portion a brooding chamber, the space betwen said curtain and said ou er inclosure portion forming a ventilating space, said hollow vertical section having ventilating openings communicating with the interior of said section and said hovering chamber, and a hot water container having a projecting bottom closing the top of said vertical section and extending thereinto toward but not to a sufiicient extent to close said ventilating openings, the remainder of said container spreading over said supporting section to transmit heat therethrough to said chamber, said container being tree to be lifted oi from its supporting section without opening said-brooding I chamber to the outer air.
3. A tireless brooder comprising a disklike base provided with an upstanding annular inclosure wall havingopenings near the base i'or ingress and'egress of the chicks therethrough, an inner inclosure including a supporting section substantially centrally mounted on said base and having a vertical tubular portion extending upwardly therefrom and said tubular portion being iiared into overhanging relation with said base and extending toward said outer inclosure portion, a curtain depending from the flared edge of said isupporting section toward said base inside of and in spaced relation to said outer inclosure portion or wall and forming with said base and said inner inclosure portion an annular hover chamber encircling said vertical portion, said vertical portion having vent openings communicating with its interior and said hover chamber, and a container'for hot water having a lower annular projecting portion extending into and closing the top of said tubular portion and said container being outwardly flared and having a lower wall extending along in close heat transmitting relation to said supporting section and the upper wall of said container being conical to dispose its greatest cross-section centrally of said container,

A ireless broeder comprising a broeder chamber including an upper heating Wall and a vertical annular heating wall, and a hot Water container having a lower Wall portion seating on said upper Wall and a projecting cylindrical portion telescoping said annular heating Wall for transmitting heat to said upper and annular Walls.
6. A tireless brooder comprising a. brooder chamber including an upwardly and Out- Wardly inclined roof-like heating Wall, a curtain depending from the higher portion of said Wall, means for heating said Wall, and said Wall having an egress vent opening above and outwardly with respect to the heated portion of said Wall.
7. In a iireless brooder, a base, a hollow heating Wall portion mounted on said base, means resting against said Wall to heat and close the same, and said Wall having vent openings below said means.
