To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, CLARENCE BoLEs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hugo- State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Leaf-Springs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in vehice springs and more particularly to a leaf spring `for automobiles and the primary object of the invention is to provide such a spring as will create a resisting and rebounding action substantially equivalentto shock absorbers, whereby the latter may be eliminated from the vehicle.
A further object of the invention resides in providing a master leaf which is designed to form a cap over the other leaves of the spring and whichk is designed with a roller bearing at its end to receive in frctional engagement therewith the lower or longer leaf of the sprin A still further object resides in providing depending lugsI or the like on the cap spring which are positioned to contact with I the side edges of the shorter leaves adjacent the ends thereof.
Still another object of the invention resides in providing a device which is simple and durable in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and one which will be very efficient and useful in operation.
With. these and other objects in view my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the l specification and claims.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this application Figure l is a side elevation of a spring constructed in accordance with my invention;

In describing the invention, I shall refer tothe drawing in which similar reference charactersv designate corresponding. arts throughout the several views and'in which l designates an upper or cap leaf spring, the
ends of which have integrally or otherwise secured thereto the clips or bracket-like sections 2 in which are provided friction rollers the cap leaf 1 are secured at their centers by means of a center bolt or other securing member 6 and are otherwise not secured togetherl in any respect whatsoever. The cap leaf' 1, however, is provided. at regular intervals along the side edges thereof with integral dependi'ng lugs 7 the same being arranged in pairs and designed' to Contact with the side edges of the leaves 5 adjacent the ends of the latter. Thus each leaf 5 is guided between four lugs 7 carried by the cap leafl.
By constructing this spring as hereinabove described and shown in the drawing,`a resisting andrebounding action is had which is substantially equivalent to shock absorbers on a vehicle, and thus an automobile' equipped with springs such as the one herein described and shown, would eliminate the necessity for using such shock absorbers.
. Moreover, by securing the springs together at the centers thereof and by providing the guides on the cap leaf for the intermediate leaf, great iiexibility is had l'whereby to af ford the resisting and rebounding action and at the same time eliminates the necessity of other securing means between the leaves.
From the foregoing description of the construction of my improved device, the manner of applying the same to use and the operation thereof will be readily understood and it will be seen that I have provided a simple, inexpensive and efficient means for carrying out the objects of the invention.
While I have particularly described the elements best adapted to perform the functions set forth, it is obvious that various changes in the form, proportion and in the minor details of construction, may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the principles of the invention.
