arrarn JOHN GROBLING, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
STOVE.
Detroit, in the county of .VVayne and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Stoves, of which the following is a specification. Thlsinvention relates .I furnaces and other heaters, and has for its ob'ect to orovide such heatin device with a V mechanically operated under feed.
, i A further object ofthe invention is to provide, in adevice of this character, means whereby fuel may be fed to the bottom'of the furnacewithout necessitating the opening of doors and to provide means whereby a determined quantity of air is admitted to increase combustion, the air admitting means being in the nature of a revoluble grate comprising a plurality of members, each of which being susceptible to movement independent of the remainder, whereby air may be admitted to the fire box in determined quantities and at determined points and also whereby ashes and cinders may be I readily removed.
It is a still further object of the invention to produce a heating device of this character in which fuel may be fed thereto from be neath the grate by suitable mechanism arranged in close proximity to the heater, but
' operated at remote points therefrom so that little attention will be required by the owner or operator of the device.
Other objects and advantages will present themselves as the nature of the invention is better understood, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation .of the improve ment.
Fig. 2 is a substantially vertical central longitudinal sectional view therethrough.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view approximately on the line 3-3. of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a similar sectional view approximately on the line 1-4: of'Fig. 1.
The body of the furnace is indicated by the numeral 10, the same being surrounded by the usual air jacket 11. The furnace may be of any desired construction, but no coal inlet door is necessitated, and'likewise draft doors may bealso eliminated, if desired. However, there is preferably an air inlet opening betweenthe jacket/11 and the furnace 10 below the grate of the furnace.
The grate is constructed in a novel mam Specification of Letters Patent.

ner and is one ofthe essential features of the invention. The grate comprises a 1 lower member 12 which provides a support for the grate proper, the said member 12 being secured in the furnace 10 in any desired or preferred manner and being provided with a plurality of radially disposed slots or openings'13 and with a central round opening H. Through the round opening 14: passes the vertical branch15 of a horizontally'dis posed pipe 16 comprising the fuel inlet and which will hereinafter be referred to in detail. The grate proper comprises an. inner diskmeinber l7 and an outer flat ring member 18. Both of the members are provided with radially disposed slots or openings 19 and 20 respectively, and both of the members are arranged for rotary "movement around each other, the disk 17 havmg a central opening receiving the branch 15 of the fuel inlet pipe 16. Connected to each of the members 17 and 18 depending through the openings 13 of elongated radially disposed slots in the supporting member 12 are the angle ends of shaker bars 21 and 22 respectively. These shaker bars extend through horizontally disposed elongated slots 21 in the jacket 11, the lowerportion of the furnace 10 being preferably cut away at this point to provide a passage for the pipe 16 which also projects through the jacket 11.
The pipe or hollow member 16 has on its outer end a vertically disposed hopper 25,
. the walls of which being preferably inclined from the mouth to the said end thereof and this hopper is achpted to receive the fuel which is to be fed to the furnace. The pipe or hollow member 16 extends a suitable dis tance beyond the outer face of the hopper 25, and in this endis received a plunger 26 having a pitman 27 pivotally connected thereto, the said pitman having its outer end secured to a crank shaft 28 provided upon the shaft 29 of a gear 30. This gear is operated by a worm 31. The worm is secured on a shaft 32 operated by a motor 33. When the motor is in operation the shaft 32 is turned, and consequently the plunger 26 reciprocated to force. a quantity of coal delivered from the hopper through the hollow member or pipe 26 into the fire box of the furnace. When the grate sections 17 and 18 are turned to regulate the openings between the said sections and between the supporting member 12, the air being let into the furnace from the bottom thereof will. proper y m X port, and means for with the ignited gases from the fuel which also enters the furnace from the bottom thereof, to insure perfect combustion, and the openings in the grate sections 18 and 19 and in the supporting member 12 thereof are only brought into full alinement when all of the ashes are to be removed from the furnace.
It is believed, from the foregoing description, When taken in connection with the drawings, the simplicity of the construction and the advantages thereof will be readily apparent Without further detailed description.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is 1-- 1. In a furnace, a grate supporting member secured in said furnace and having radial openings therefor, a grate comprising an inner slotted disk member and an outer slotted ring member surrounding the disk, and both disk and ring resting on the sup independently revolving either the disk or ring 011 the support.
2. In a furnace, a grate supporting member secured therein and having spaced openings therethrough, a grate comprising an inner slotted disk member and an outer slotted fiat ring member surrounding the disk, a shaker bar for the disk and a shaker bar for the ring, whereby either the disk or the ring may be turned independently on the support.
3. In a furnace, a slotted grate supporting member secured therein, and said member having a central opening therethrough, a grate comprising an inner slotted disk mem ber and an outer slotted flat ring member arranged around the disk and both the disk and ring resting on the support, said disk having a central opening therethrough, a fuel feed pipe entering from the bottom of the furnace and having a branchpassing through the openings in the support and in the disk, means for independently revolving the disk and ring on the support, a hopper for the feed pipe, and a reciprocatory element in the outer end of said feed pipe adjacent to said hopper.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
