Specification of Letters Patent.
MANUFACTURE OF GOLF-BAGS.
Application filed June 14., 1919. Serial noiaoaeea.
in. The bag comprises a body or outer bag,-
capable of opening and closing lengthwise and having fastening means, and an inner bag member closed at one end and open at the other and having connections at its open end with the body permitting it to be inverted. Means are also provided in the bottom of the body for shackling the heads of the clubs, so that, even if the cover, which cannot be removed because of its connections with the body, were cut, the clubs could not be withdrawn.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof and in the several views of which similar parts are designated by the same characters of reference:
Figure-1 is a front elevation of the bag with the inner member in position to serve as a cover;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the condition of the bag with the inner member lowered;
Fig. 3 is an inside face view of the bag open, with the cover member in the lowered position;
Fig. 4 is a horizontal section near the bottom of Fig. 1;
Fig. 5 is a horizontal section through Fig. 2, at the region of the pivots; and
Fig. 6 is an enlarged fragment of Fig. 5.
The body 1 is preferably of the regulation cylindrical tubular form, closed at the bottom and open at the top. As preferably constructed it comprises two semi-cylindrical frames each formed of two longitudinal members 2, 3 and two curved end members 4, 5 with a covering of fabric or other flexible material 6. Each half has a rigid bottom 7, forming a housing for a ball drawer 8. The longitudinal members 2 are joined by hinges 9, permitting the halves to' be opened, and the members 3 11 of a lock.
An inner, shorter, tubular bag member 12, having one end open and the other end 13 closed, is connected with one of the halves of the body, marked a. Said inner member is preferably formed of flexible material, with a frame composed of two longitudinal members 14 and a ring 15. The ends 16 of the longitudinal members 14 project beyond the open end of the inner bag member, forming lugs for the reception of pivot screws or rivets 17, which fasten to the n'1embers'2, 3 of the frame of the half a of the body. These connections are located at asubstantial distance below the top of the body; and the inner bag member is of such length that, when it hangs down as a lining, its bottom comes approximately to the bottom of the interior of the body. When swung upward so that its closed end is at the top, it is high enough to accommodate the clubs, Whichare thus completely housed within the body and inner bag member, now acting as a cover.
The body is opened when the inner memher is to be inverted from one position to another, and, when the member is used as a bear the parts 10,

opened, and the connections 16, 17 in turn prevent the cover from being removed. The clubs, then with their heads down, are embraced by the buckled loop 18 of a strap 19 in the lower part of the half a of the body, thus preventing the clubs'being withdrawn even if the cover should be cut. When the bag is fastened the ball drawers are also in accessible.
Straps 20 on the inner side of the half I) are provided for holdingclothing or the like.
The bag will stand erect either open or closed, and in either condition will hold the c ubs.
"What is'claimed as new is:
1. A golf-bag comprising a body capable of opening and closing lengthwise, a closedend cover in the body, and connections .se-
curing the cover to the body permitting the end cover in the body, and ivot connections between the open end of t e cover and the body, said connections being substantially below the top of the body.
3. A golf-bag comprising an outer bag formed of hinged semi-cylindrical frames covered with flexible material, an inner bag,
and connections between the inner bag. and
one of the halves of the outer bag located 10 substantially below the top of the body permitting the inner bag to be inverted to constitute a cover.
4. A golf-bag comprising two longitudinal hinged body halves having means for fastening them, and an invertible lining and cover member closed at one end and pivotally connected at its open end with one of the body halves substantially below its top.
