ALARM-LOCK.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, PETER TRACZ, a subj ect of the Emperor of Austria, residing at Carteret, county of Middlesex, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Alarm-Locks, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in locks and particularly totypes adapted for use on the doors of dwellings and like build- 'lhe principal object of the invention is to provide a lock which will audibly announce that it has been operated.

Another object is to provide means, combined with the lock mechanism, which will indicate the particular door which has been unlocked.

These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which-- Figure 1 is a side elevational view show ing a pair of doors indicating the application of the invention, the drawing being largely diagrammatic in character, and

Referring to the drawings, common doors are indicated by the numerals 10 and 11, the same being set in ambs 12, arranged in the walls 14, of conventional type buildings.

Fixed in the edge frames of the doors are lock casings 14, the facings 15 of which are set flush with the door structure and held by screws passing through: openings 16 in the usual manner.

Slidably engaged within the lock casing is a bolt 18, the same being guided at its inner end by projections 19, while the outer end of the bolt passes through an opening 20 formed in the lock face 15.

Inthe lower side of the lock bolt 18, is an angular opening 22. closely adjacent to the extending portion of the bolt, the same ter- 'minating in a recess or slot 23, and engageable within the opening 22 is the ward 24, of a key, its stem 25, passing into the lock in the usual manner.

It will be obvious that upon turning the keys, the ward 25 will make contact with the angular sides of the openings 22, moving the Specification of Letters Patent.-

Extending outward on the same side of the lock bolt is a projection 28, adapted to make contact with a lever arm 29, the same being pivoted on a pin 30, in the lock casing and normally held against the projection, due to the pull of the tension spring 31, fixed to a pin 32 within the lock.

Movable with the lever 29 is another arm 83, carrying a metallic contact plate 35 upon its other side, the same being adapted to form an electric circuit between the fixed contacts 36 and 37 Engaged with the contacts 36 and 37 are lead wires 38 and 40, connecting with the hinges 89 and 41, with which are engaged other wires 42 and 44, the former being in circuit with the battery 45, while the latter wire leads to an annunciator 46 arranged at any convenient location.

Alsoleading from the battery 45 is a wire 47, to the switch 48, where it may be placed in circuit with a wire 49, leading to a bell 50, from which extends the other circuit wire 51, to the annunciator, so that when the switch is closed, and the key operated in the lock, contact will be made causing the bell to ring and the annunciator to sliow a number corresponding with the door.

Similarly, like wires lead from the lock applied to the door 11, as 38 and 40, pass through the hinges 39 and 41 to the battery 45 and bell to the same annunciator so that the operation of any door connected within the same circuit will be disclosed.

From the foregoing it will be readily observed that a key operated lock has been disclosed which upon being operated causes an audible signal to be iven and coincidentlv therewith displays upon the annunciator the particular door in which the keys have been used.
