Description
J. N. LEONARD.
`Improvement in Spool-'Thread Show-Cases.
N0. 132,366.V Patented Oct. 22, 1872..
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.l
JOHN N. LEONARD, O F ROOKVILLE, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN SPOOL-THREAD SHOW-CASES.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN N. LEONARD, of Rockville, county of rlolland and State of Oonnecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Silk or Thread Cases; and to enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, I will proceed to describe it, referring to the drawing, in which the same letters indicate like parts in each of the figures.
The nature of this invention consists in making a case of one or more compartments, into each of which are iitted shelves or drawers provided with consecutive incline depres sions or steps of a suitable width to receive the diameter of the head of aspool, each of which is also provided with pins, arranged and secured at suitable distances from each other, to receive the various sizes of spools and allow them to be easily removed and replaced Without friction against each other. 'lhis shelf or drawer is provided with a glass iront, so as to show the different colors or qualities of silk or thread without opening the drawer.
The object of this invention is to clearly exhibit the color, number, or quality of silk or Y thread Without removing it from the pins; and vits arrangement upon pins prevents effectually all liability of rubbing or cha-ling one against the other, or otherwise exposing the surfaces to Vbecome defaced or damaged by friction, and at the same time allow the spools to be easily removed and replaced.
In the accompanying drawing, Fig. l is a front elevation, and Figs. 2, 3, 4. are sectional side elevations of the shelf or drawers.
a is the case proper; b, the shelf or drawerfronts. c is the glass arranged in the shelf or drawer-fronts. d are the spools as seen through the glass. e are the shelves or drawers, the upper surface being divided into steps or iucliued depressions,f, sometimes formed inclining toward the front and sometimes on an i11- clination from the front, and into these steps or inclinations I arrange and firmly secure pins g. I also sometimes make the shelf or drawer a true level surface and arrange and secure the pins vertically therein. These pins g are arranged uniformly and in such a manner that the spools may be placed thereon and removed therefrom Without rufding the surface of the others.
It will be seen that by the use of this invention the silk can be packed for transportation or for exhibition, removed and replaced, without the least liability of damage thereto.
I believe I have thus shown the nature, construction, and advantage of this invention so `as to enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same therefrom.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Let: ters Patent, is-
The combination of the shelf or drawers e, with or without the inclined steps, with the pins g, inclined or vertical, and case a, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
JOHN N. LEONARD. [L. S.]
