JOHN ZELLEB, F MOBRIDGE, vSOUTH DAKOTA.
CLAMP-Erminia.
`To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, JOHN ZELLER, a citiz en of the United States, and a resident of Mobrid e, inthe. county of IWalworth and State o South Dakota, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clamp-Appliers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a clamp applier and aims more particularly to provide a device of this nature which will be simple i'nI construction, resulting in the consequent Filg. 1,`
`ig. 4 illustrates the tool after having almost completed the application of the clamp,
and
Fig. 5 the clamp in ap liedposition.
In these views the re erence numeral 1 designates a rod which is provided at one end with a handle 2 .and screw-threaded throughout its entire length as at 3. AA nose 4 is ivotally mounted upon the opposite end of t e rod as at 5 and is provided with a grooved portion 6 adapted for engagement with 'a wire. An interiorly screw-threaded collar '7 isjmounted upon the rod and is adapted to be moved along the same by vir.-
ture of its engagement with the screw threads upon therod, when the collar is held against rotative movement The collar 7 Sis provided with openings eX- tending parallel to its main bore, such openings being provided through the ends of the collar as Vat 8 and 8 upon opposite sidesof the rod 1. A
Further openings 9 and 9 are provided in said collar running at right angles to the openings 8 and 8, such openings 9 and. 9 communicating at their inner ends with the openings 8 and 8 and extending through to the outer face of the collar 7. The openings 9 and 9 are. interiorly screw-threaded and are provided with winged bolts 10 and 11 which are also screw-threaded and adapted Specication of Letters Patent.

to be engaged with the screw threads of the openings 9 and 9. IIt will be noted that the ends of the winged bolts are grooved as at 12 for the purpose of securing such a Ypurchase upon the ends of the wires as to positively prevent withdrawal movement of the wires relatively to the collar when tension is placed upon the latter by turning the screw.
It will vbe understood tha-t wire clamps are sold ready to apply and that such clamps are usually formed in the shape of the letter -U. It will now'be noted that in operationall that is necessary to 'be done is to engage the base of the wire clamp with the grooved portion 6 of the nose 4, as at 13, after having threaded the ends 14 through such base around the hose 15. 'The ends 14 are then passed through the openings '8 and 8 and drawn through the same as far as practical by hand,l upon which the winged bolts 10 and 1 1 are tightened down as to retain the ends'll` 1n position. It will b e understood that during these preliminary" eperations that the tool is inthe osition illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2. The handle 2 is now rotated so as to draw the collar 7 and consequently the` ends 14 of the wire clamp toward it and the clamp firmly around the hose 15. When the proper degree of tension has been exerted upon the clamp the handle 2 is rocked-anticlockwise around'its nose 4, the engagement between the Wire 13 and grooved portion 6 acting as a pivot point, until the position illustrated in Fig. 4 has been reached. When the clamp has srsv been applied to this point it will be understood that the same will remain in position of its own initiative and the surplus length of wire 14 ma now be clipped to the length desired and. y clamp as illustrated in Fig. 5 by any suitable device. y Y I I claimt-v` Y j A clamp atlixer including a rod, a collar mounted upon said rod, means for engaging a wire secured to the front end of said rod, vsuch collar being provided with openings extending parallel to the 4bore of said collar,.
such collar being provided with further ent around the base of the ioo openings extending at right angles to -the their` inner ends Wire adapted to be passed first-named openings btween the side Walls through the first-named openings,
of the collar and the rst-named openings,
such latter openings being interorly screw- JOHN ZELLER threaded and Winged bolts provided with Witnesses: grooved ends mounted Within such latter M. POTTS, openings adapted to engage and retain with W. H. JAY.
