To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN T. CLARK, a citizen of the United States, residing .at I'rovo, in the county of Utah and State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Holders. of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to necktie holders and has for its object to provide an inexpensive device on which a necktie of the fourin-hand type may be knotted, and the device and the tie thereon securely and quickly fastened within the fold of a collar and the device engaged with a collar button in the front of a collar.

These and other objects which are ap parent I accomplish with the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which similar letters and numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the several figures described in the specification forming a part of the application and pointed out in the appended claims.

In the drawings in which I have shown a substantial embodiment of my invention Figure 1 is a frontelevation of the device and an operating position shown in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the device turned in the position most convenient for knotting a necktie thereon. Fig. 3 is an elevation of the knotted tie and the device turned in the knot of said tie in the most convenient position to fasten the tie on a. collar.

It is highly desirable in using neckties oi the four-in-hand type with turned down collars that the tie be easily and quickly secured in position and knotted without havingto form the knot each time the tie is worn, as the forming of the knot and drawing the portions of the tie into position within the collar frequently soils the collar and stretches the tie out of shape and creases the material. The present invention enables the wearer to knot the tie on the device and then to quickly fasten the device on the ordinary collar button and the tie in the desired position within the front of collars of various heights without soiling the collar or disturbing the folds of the knotted tie.

The device consists of a piece of spring wire A bent to form a medial spiral loop 1 having a short U-shaped loop 2 formed in the said spiral loop to engage the collar button. The end portions of said wire, after said spiral loop 1 is formed therein, cross each other over the said U-shaped loop Q/and extend outwardly diverging from each other. In each free end portionof said wire A a plurality of spiral eyes 4. are formed, whlch eyes are positioned'in' pairs, each pair of which may be connected by the elastic or loop of rubber 5. The different eyes 4 are provided in order that thedevice may be used on collars havingdifierent heights, and a will be obvious the said elastic 5 may engage on any pair of said eyes as shown in Fig. 1, Where it is shown as engaged with the second pair of eyes 4 in full lines, and on the first pair of said eyes in dotted lines, the latter position being the one where the collar is low, while for medium height collars the full line position is used. If the collar should be extremely high the device may be worn thereon by the said elastic being engaged over either of the third or fourth pair of said eyes 4. The tension of the wire tends to open the space between the free end portions of said wire A, while the tension of the said elastic 5 tends to draw said free end portion toward each other, and in use the free end portions of said wire A are to be inserted within the fold of the collar to aid in holding the tie in place.

The tie is formed into the knot around the leads of the elastic band 5, with the device in the position shown in Fig. 2, and for convenience the loop 1 may be temporarily engaged over a hook or partially driven nail, and when the knot is formed, the tie v is partially rotated on said elastic band 5 to the wearing position shown in Fig. 3, and with the knot of the tie held in the right hand the thumb of the hand may direct the engagement of the said loop 2 on the collar button by pressing up on the said loop 2 while the loops 4: and the end portions of the elastic are pressed into the fold of the collar. When pushing the holder and tie into place within the collar and over the collar button the device will assume somewhat the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, and the tension of the elastic and of the wire will draw and hold the tie in place within the 'collar and on the button. The form of the said loops 4 allows the elastic 5 to be put on or taken off easily for ments of the free end portions and side loops 4 Without breaking the Wire, and also aids in holding the tie in place in the collar.

The device Will automatically adjust itself and the tie thereon to any size or Width of collar, and the repeated knotting of the tie is obviated, a neater knot is presented and and extended Wear of the tie is afforded.

Having thus described my invention I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim l. A necktie holder consisting of a piece of spring Wire bent to form acircular loop medially therein and a plurality of side loops in each free end, a button engaging bend formed in said medial loop, and an elastic band connecting a pair of said side loops.

2. A necktie holder consisting of a piece of? spring Wire; a number of side loops formed in each end portion and a spiral loop medially therein, the said medial loop having a portion formed into a U-shaped loop; and an elastic band engaging and connecting a pair of said side loops.

3. A necktie holder consisting of a piece or spring wire; a number of side loops formed in each end portion and a button engaging loop medially therein, and a resilient member connecting a side loop on one free end portion with a side loop on the other free end portion.
