Be it known that 1, CHARLES ROsTEEN, acitizen of the United States, residing at Portland, in the countyv of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in MillrCan Fillers, of which the following is'a specification.
This invention relates torfllling devices andthe object of the same is to provide a device that will direct a stream of liquid flowing from a reservoir into acontainer and also automatically control the flow of the liquid from the reservoir.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device as described provided with a novel form of locking means "for the. fluid control means.
'A'still further object of the invention is to provide a device of the kind described that is simple in construction, eflicient in operation and consists of the minimum number of parts.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and shown in the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of the improved device; f

Referring to the parts by reference numerals, 10 designates a supporting frame, the ends of which are of an inverted V- shape. Braces 11 are arranged'between and secured to the legs ofeach V-member and the apex of each of the latter secured by a rivet. rivet and bent outwardly to'provide semicircular arms to embrace a reservoir 13. Auxiliary brace legs 14 are provided which are secured to the lower of the braces 11 as clearly shown inFigs. 1 and 2. The reservoir 13 is preferably constructed of sheet metal with its margin 15 rolled over a reinforcing wire 16. At suitable intervals in the trough 13 outlet openings are provided one of which is shown in the drawings at'16.
The legs are extended above the At one end of the reservoir an overflow opening 17 is provided, which has a proecting flange 18 extending therefrom. A suitable detachable discharge spout119 may be telescoped on the flange 18 when it is so desired. Suitable discharge spouts--20 are soldered or otherwise attached to the underface of the trough l3 beneath the openings 16 to direct liquid passing therethroughl F or each of the openings 16 formed in the trough 13 there is provided an automatic filling means and in-that they are all identi-, cal in construction thedescriptionof one willsuffice; Each of these automatic filling means consists of a lever 21 the same being formed of sheet metal bent on its medial line to provide the spaced walls 22. Adjacent each opening 16 a rod 23 is secured having an'eye 2 1 formed at its upper end as clearly indicated in Fig. 2. The eye 24 on each rod is positioned between the spaced walls 22 of the lever 21 and receives a pivot pin 25, the latter being detachably carried by the walls 22. To prevent loss of the pivot pin a chain 26 is attached thereto and secured to the reservoir. A valve rod 27 is pendently carried by the inner end of each lever 21, the latter carrying a substantially frusto conical, valve 28, which is adapted to engage the openin 16 to I close communication therethroug 1. Adjacent each of the openings 16 in the trough'13 is a series of pegs 29 that guides the valve 28. A float rod 30 is carried by the outer end of each lever 21,
bent to. form a hook 32 at one end, an eye 33 intermediate the end and a receptacle engaging eye 34, the eye 33 encircling the rod 30 to retain the clasp thereon. Suitable eyes 35 are formed on the clasp to give the same more resiliency. This clasp isv adapted to engage the ordinary type of milk can as shown in Fig. 1 andby the same the rod 30- is guided in its movement to insure centering of the float in the can.
Asis obvious, when the liquid passin through the openings 16and guided by the spout 20 into the can, reaches a predeter mined height, the. float 31 will move upwardly, thereby movin each valve 28 lnto its opening 16 and by c losing the said opening prevent the flow of liquid therethrough.
To positively retain each valve 28 in its respective opening, a suitable locking means is provided Which consists of a strap 36 looped midway its ends and equipped with a latch 37. The latch consists of a rectan ular Wire frame Which has one of its si es journaled in the looped portion of the strap and the opposite end engaged With the lower margin of the lever 21.
It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of this device, Without departing from the material parts of this device. It is, therefore, not Wished to confine the invention to the exact form and construction herein described and claimed, but it is Wished to include all such as properly comes Within the scope claimed.
What is claimed is 1. A filling device including a relatively high frame-Work equipped With a superimposed reservoir, said reservoir having a plurality of openings through Which its contents is dispensed into subjacent receptacles, float rods pending from the reservoir and having floats fixed on their lower ends which are actuated by the rise'of liquid in the receptacles to close the openings of the reservoir, and means lying horizontally across the receptacles and slidably engaged with said float rods to hold the floats centered in the receptacles.
2. A filling device including a reservoir and movable means to prevent the discharge of liquid from said reservoir, means for controlling the movement of said first mentioned means including a rod having a float attached to one end thereof adapted for placement in a receptacle to be filled and a spring guide means for said rod formed from a single strand of Wire bent to form a hook at one end thereof, an eye interinediate the end thereof to receive said rod and an eye at the opposite end thereof.
