Description
PATENT rFIo HERBERT H. WHITE, OF LEQMINSTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN lCE-CREEPERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 131,836, dated October 1, 1872.
To allwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT H. WHITE, of Leominster, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Ice-Creeper, and I do hereby declare that the following specification, takenin connection with the drawing making apart of the same, is a full, clear, and exact description thereof. I
Figure 1 is a side view. Fig. 2 is a vertical section. Fig. 3 is a view of the plate.
The object ofmy invention is to produce an ice-creeper which shall be cheap, durable, and
easy of adjustment 5 and consists of the de' vice hereinafter described.
Many of the creepers now in use are subject to several objections, among which are difficulty of adjustment, liability to get loos'e-thus producing a clicking sound, and their unpleasant appearance when attached to the boot.
In my invention I make the creeper A, Fig. 1, of rubber, and of such shape that it will receive the heel of the boot, while the strap B,
which .is also of rubber, passes over the instep and holds it firmly in place. The bottom of the creeper is made by placing between two thicknesses of rubber a perforated metal plate, O, as shown in Fig. 3, having several spurs which project through the outer covering and and catch in the ice. During the process of manufacture the perforations in the plate 0 becomefilled with rubber, and the upper'and under covering of the plate thus firmly united, forming a solid piece. The elasticity of the strap permits the device to be easily adjusted,
but at the same time holds it securely in place. What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The combination of the metal plate (3, constructed as described,-with the rubber heelcalk A, when the former is embedded in the a latter during the process of vulcanization, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
HERBERT H. WHITE.
