To all whomz'tmaygconccmt: 7
Be it known that 1, CHARLES J. SOHIEMER, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident ofj'Mount J 0y, I county of Lancaster, State of Pennsylvania, have 1nvented" certain new and useful Improvements in Fruit-Presses, of which the follow ing is a full and clear specification.
The object of this invention is to provlde a simple device that may be attachedto a table or other support'and be employed for expressing the nice of fruits or for riclng potatoes, etc., as more fully herelnafter set forth.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device- Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view; and
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the strainer-holding tu'be.
My device embodies essentially a cylinder a open at both ends and tapering upwardly. Integrally formed on the exterior of the cylinder, near its upper end, is a pair of downwardly-facing stationaiy clamp-jaws 6 provided with a pair of upstanding ears 0 on which is pivoted a lever (Z, this lever carrying a pivotally-depending pressing-disk 6 adapted to descend into the cylinder When the lever is swung downwardly and forwardly. On the same side of the cylinder with the lug b is formed another integral lug f and threaded through which is a screw 9 provided at its upper end with a clamping member it adapted to cooperate with the stationary supporting and clamping member I) to attach the device to the edge of a table, said screw being provided at its lower end with a hand-pieced for turning it. Adapted to be removably suspended in the cylinder is a cylindrical cup .j, whose upper end is open and whose lower end is closed by'a perforated plate is, the lower portion of the wall of this cup being also perforated. This cup is removably suspended in the cylinder by having a bead lat its upper edge rest upon the upper edge of the cylinder. The fruit to be pressed is placed in the cup and the presser-head e is forced down against the same by means of the hand-lever d. After the juice is expressed through the perforations in the cup, the cup may be withdrawn from the cylinder for the purpose of conveniently removing the pulp, seeds, etc. For ricing potatoes, etc., the same operation is gone through with. For
I Specification of Letters Patentfl t nted ept; 30, 1919,

' the purpose of catching the juice that is expressed from the fruit and thus preventing it squirting or splashing about, a suitable cloth,'bag or sack may be hung to the depending lower edge of the cylinder a, an
outwardly-extending flange on being provided at. the lower edge of the cylinder to enable the mouth of the bag to be conveniently and securely tied around the lower end of the cylinder, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, the bag or cloth being designated by the letter a and the string being designated bythe letter 0. To prevent the strainer-cup being accidentally withdrawn from the cylinder in case the resser-head gets stuck in the cup prior to withdrawal of the presserhead, I provide the cup at opposite sides with a pair of outwardly-pressed lugs 19 which engage under an inwardly-extending flange 9 formed on the upper end of the cylinder a, this flange beingcut away at opposite points, as indicated at r, to permit the lugs 10 to pass down into the cylinder. After the lugs have passed down into the cyl inder, the cup is turned sufficiently in either direction to cause the lugs to pass under the downwardly-facingshoulder of the flange g and thuslock the cup in place.
A feature of importance in my device is the idea of employing this open-ended cylinder which depends, from the point of support on the table. This not only brings the device low enough with respect to the table to enable the operator to apply power with other convenient support below the appa-' ratus.
The nature and scope of the invention having been thus indicated and its preferred embodiment havingbeen specifically de- .scribed, what is claimed as new is:
1. In a device of the class set forth, the combination of an open-ended cylinder and means for removably attaching it to a support, a strainer-cup removably depending in said cylinder, and a lever carrying a presserhead' working in said cup, the lower end of said cylinder being provided with means for attaching a bag thereto.
2. In a device of the class set forth, the
combination of an open-ended cylinder and means for removab-ly'attaching it to asupport, a strainer-cup removably depending in Copies of this'patentmay be obtained for five cents each, by addressing Washington, D. 0;
means forjdetachably attaching it to a support, said cylinder being provided 7 at its upper end with 7 an inwardly-extending flange cut away atone or more points, a strainer-cup rotatably suspended in said cylinder and provided with a lug or lugs adapted to passdown through said cut-away parts of the flange. c
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature. I
Y i CHARLES J. soH EMER.
