nnin'r'onon For, SHIRTS.
To all whom) it may concern:
{Be it known that I, YOUNG K. 'BUELL, a citizen of the Republic of China, and a resident of-the'city-of New York, borough of ,York have. invented a new and Improved Reinforce for Shirts, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and-improved reinforce for neglige shirts and other shirts, arranged to reinforce" the neck portion of the shirt and thereby protect this portion againstbeing easily worn through by contact with the collar.
Another ob]ect isto provide a reinforce o the same material as that -of which the shirt body is made, the ornamentation of the reinforce being in register with that of the shirt body so that, in case the latter is worn in through, the exposed reinforce has the appearanceof the shirt body. Another object is to provide a reinforce which extends all around the neckband and is made in separate pieces, two for the front underneath 2.5 the shirt bodyand one at the back underneath the plies of the yoke With these and, other objects in view, the invention consists'of certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and dcscribed and then specifically pointed out in the claims.
' A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in
its
which similar characters of'reference indicate' corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a shirt provided with the improved reinforce;
F ig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same; Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross section of the same on the line 3-3of Fig. 1; and I Fig. 4 is a similar vieWof the same on the line 4'4'of Fig.v 2.
Th body 10 of the shirt is provided at the median line of the front with the multi-ply or reinforced front flaps 11 adapted to overlap and to befastened together in the usual manner by buttons and buttonholes or other fastening devices 12. The multi'ply neck-' bandl5 and theinulti-ply yoke 16 of the shirt are of the usual construction, and in order to reinforce the body 10 at the front valong the neckband up to the yoke-16 use is neckband 15 to the yoke 16, as plainly shown side to the other.
Specification of Letters Patent. a Patented Sept, 16, 1919, i Application filed September 4, 1918. Serial No. 252,599.
in Fig. 1. Each reinforce 20 is made of a piece of the same shirt material of which the body 10 is made, and the piece is folded over on itself to provide adouble thickness and the upper edge is extended between the plies of the neckband 15 and. is secured thereto by st tches 21 which also serve to fasten the plies of the neckband 15 together at the base thereof. The lower edge of the reinforce 20' is fastened to. the body 10'by a row of stitches 22 which extends to the corresponding flap 11 and to the yoke 16, it being understood that the frontend of the reinforce 20 extends between the plies of the flap 11, and the rear end extends between the plies of the yokeltl. Each reinforce 20 has its front meinber arranged in such a manner tion of the body and hence the appearance of the shirt remains practically the same.
A reinforce :25 is arranged between the plies of the yoke 16 and extends along the rear portion of the collar band 15 from' one This reinforce 25 is of shirt material and preferably of one ply only and its upper edge is fastened in place by the stitches which are used for fastening the upper end of the yoke 16 to the base of the collar band 15. The lower edge of the reinforce 25 is fastened by stitches 24: to the yoke. It will be noticed that the reinforce 25 forms practically a continuation of the front reinforce 20 and hence the entire neck portion of the shirt is reinforced to protect this portion against being easily worn through by contact with the collar. It will also be noticed that by the arrangement de scribed the usual construction of the shirt is not interfered with and the reinforcing pieces 20 and 25 can be readily attached to the shirt while'the latter is being manufac- Patent: i l 1 1. The combination with a shirt body having overlapping front flaps, a multiply yoke and a multi-ply collar, of front reinforces, underlying the body, each of wh ch is formed of a piece of shirt m rial folded over on itself to provide a double thickness and has the front member of said reinforce so disposed that its ornamentations register with the ornamentations of said body, said reinforces extending from the corresponding front flaps along the collar band to the yoke and stitched at-their upper edges to said corresponding front flap, said yoke and said collar band, and a row of stitches connecting the lower edges of the reinforce to said coris formed of a piece of shirtmaterial folded over on itself to provide a double thickness and has the front member of said reinforce so disposed that its ornamentations register with the ornalnentations of said body, said, reinforces extending from the corresponding front flaps along the collar band to the yoke and stitched at their upper edges to said corresponding front fiap, said yoke and said collar band, a row of stitches connecting the lower edges of the reinforce to said corresponding front flap, said body, and said yoke, and a back reinforce interposed between the plies of the yoke and stitched thereto and to the collar band.
