A carrier or bridging element- 11 of insulating material has attached thereto an angle member 12 of relatively thinfiat metal stock, one side or blade 13 of the angle member providing a means of attachment to the carrier 11 and the other side or blade 1% ex the \valls or Jaws of the contact 2. Both the blade 14 and the walls 10 are apertured to receive the if) of a pivot bolt 16, and the walls 10 are suitably compressed against the blade 1% by spring washers 17 hearing against the outer surfaces of the walls 10 and reacting against the head 18 of the pivot bolt and the adjustable nut 19'thereof, respectively.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that by movement of the handle 20 the carrier 11 my be moved relatively to the base 1 about the pivot bolt 16. One of the purposes of this movement is to provide for relative engagenient and disengagement between the contact 3 on the base and a blade contact '25 formed on a metal conductor strip 26 which in turn is secured to the carrier 11 by means of a screw 27. From Fig. 3 of the drawing it will be apparent that this blade is offset laterally from the carrier 11 and longitudinally positioned about midwayof the carrier. bleed the free end of the carrier where the screw .27 provides the point of' attachment for the conductor 26 thereto, there is provided a clip contact 30 in electrical communication with said conductor. With the parts in the positions shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing, an electrical circuit is established from terminal 4, through connector 5, contact 2, angle member 12, contact 40, fuse terminal 37, through the fuse, through fuse terminal 35, contact 30, conductor 26, blade contact 25, contact 3, opposite end connector 5 to opposite end terminal if The leverage is increased'by offsetting the blade 25 and bringing it longitudinally nearer the pivot point than the contact 30. Furthermore, the fuse and. fuse holding contacts are spaced away from the pivot and the'circuit controlling contacts 25 and 3, making for greater accessibility and longitudinal compactness. 7
As many changes could be made in the above construction and as many apparently widely different.embodiments of the invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter set forth in the foregoing description or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
lVhat is claimed is:
1. In a fuse-holding switch, in combination, a base. a pair of spaced apart contacts mounted thereon, a bridging element pivotally mounted for movement relatively to said base, a second pair of contacts mounted on said bridging element and adapted for cooperative association with said base contacts. and a pair of fuse receiving and holding contacts respectively connected to said second pair of contacts; one of said second pair being offset longi- 'tudinally of and transversely of its fuse receiving contact.
2. In a fuse-holding switch, in combination, a base a pair of spaced apart contacts mounted thereon, a bridging element pivot.- ally mounted for movement relatively to said base, a second pair of contacts mounted on said bridging element and adapted for cooperative association with said base contacts, a pair of fuse receiving and holding contacts respectively connected to said second pair of contacts; one of said second pair being offset longitudinally of and trans versely of its fuse receiving contact, and the other contact of said second pair being pivotally connected to one of the base contacts.-
3. In a fuse-holding switch, in combination, a base,a pair of spaced apart contacts mounted thereon, a bridging element pivotally mounted for movement relatively to said base, a second pair of contacts mounted on said bridging element and adapted for cooperative associationwit-h 'said basecontacts, a pair of fuse receiving and holding contacts respectively connected to said second pair of contacts; one'of said second pair being offset longitudinally of and transversely of itsfuse receiving contact, and an inclosed fuse having terminals adapted to engage with the fuse receiving contacts.
4. In a fuse-holding switch, in combination, a base, a pair of spaced apart contacts mounted thereon, a bridging element piv'otally mountedfor movement relatively to said base, a second pair of contacts mounted on said bridging element and adapted. for cooperatlveassociation with said base contacts, a pair of fuse receiving and holding contacts respectively connected to said second pair of contacts; one of said of contacts mounted thereon and spaced apart. substantially less thatthe length of a fuse, a bridging element movable relatively tosaid base, a second pair of contacts mounted thereon and spaced apart to engage with said first pair. a third pair of contacts carried by said bridging element. one of which electrically connects with one of the second pair of contacts and the other of which electrically connects with the other of said second pair. said third pair constituting fuse connecting contacts and being spaced apart to receive a fuse longitudinally between them.
6. In a fuse-holding switch strip, a base. a pair of contacts mounted thereon and paced apart substantially less than the length of a fuse, a bridging element movable relatively to said base. a second pair of contacts mounted thereon and spaced apart to engage with said first pair. a third pair of contacts carried by said bridging element. one of which electrically connects with one of the second pair of contacts and the other of which electrically connects with the other of said second pair, said third pair constituting fuse connecting contacts and being spaced apart to receive a fuse longitudinally between them, and an inclosed fuse having extending knife blade terminals adapted to be connected to said fuse connecting contacts'I HARRY S.
