PICTURE HOOK;
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 18. 1918 I 1,313,366, Patent-91m 19,1919.
UNTTE STATES PATENT orries.
7 JOHN W; WRIGHT, OFTdR-ONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA..-v l s PICTURE-HOOK.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN W. ,WRIGHT, a citizen of the Dominion of Canada, residing at Toronto, in the county of York, Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture- Hooks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in devices for hanging pictures.
One object of the present invention is to provide a novel and simple device which is arranged to be secured to the back of the frame of the picture whereby the picture can be more easily and accurately adjusted to the proper height on the wall, and also at the desired angle to the wall, as well as to the proper level.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a novel and improved device of this character which is preferably formed from wire and which is so constructed that it will be very strong and the several hooks thereof prevented from bending outwardly when the weight of the picture is suspended therefrom.
Other objects and advantages will be ap parent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a picture in proper hanging position, and equipped with my improved hook members.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of one portion of the picture showing one of the devices in elevation.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged rear elevation of the device looking from the side opposite to that of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents the frame of the picture to which my invention is secured. Secured to the rear face of each of the end portions of the frame is a wire member 11 which is peculiarly constructed to perform the functions of the present invention. As
Specification of Letters Patent.
the two members 11 are identical in conwhere it is again treated as before described,
to provide another hook 16. This is repeated as many times throughout the length of the wire as desired to produce the desired number of hooks. At each end of the wire there is formed an eye for the reception of the screw 17 by means of which the device is attached to the back of the frame. The eyes are shown at 18. The ends of the picture wire 19 are formed with the loops 20 which are engaged with the desired hooks at both sides of the picture frame.
Attention is particularly called to the arrangement of the portions 15 behind the portions 12. Upon an inspection of Fig. 1 it will be seen that when stress is placed on the hooks, by the weight of the picture on the wire, there will be no outward bending of the hooks, because of this arrangement above named. The portions 15 will be pressed against the portions 12 of the wires of the two devices, whereby a strong and durable device is produced. By transferring the loops of the wire 20 from one to another of the hooks, the proper angle of the picture with respect to the wall can be easily obtained, and by interchangeably engaging the loops with the various hooks at one side of Patented Aug.-.19, 1919."
