Description
G. HAKIUS. TROMBONE WHISTLE. APPLICATJON FILED MAY 5. 1919.
Patented July 29, 1919.
OFFICE.
'enonen names, or TOLEDO, onro.
TROMBONE-WHISTLE.
To all whom may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnoncn HAKIUS, a citizen ofthe United States, and a resident of Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Trombone-Whistle; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and usethe same, reference being had to the accompan ing drawings, and. to the characters 0 marked thereon, specification.
My invention has for its object toprovide an improved whistle wherein the tones of the whistle may be changed at the will of the operator.
The invention may be contained in whistles of different forms and yet be within the scope of the claims hereinafter appended. I have selected a whistle containing my inreference which form a part of this vention and .shall describe it hereinafter.
The whistle selected is illustrated in the drawings forming apart hereof.
Figure 1 of the drawings is aperspective view of one form of whistle containing my invention, and Fig. 2'is an illustration of a modified form-of whistle also containing my invention.
The whistle has a tube 1, one'endof which is provided withamouth-piece 2 and an air escape opening 3. The mouth-piece and air escape openin 3 forms the sounding element of the w istle.
The tube 1-.fits into a tubular member 7 and telescopes therewith. Movement of the tube 1 with respect to the tubular member 7 causes variations of the sound produced by the whistle. I
The tube 1 is provided with a depending member 5 to which may be connected a tube 6 that also telescopes into a tubular member 8 which is secured in position by the depending members 10 and 11 that are secured to the tubular member 7. The tube 6 being rigidly connected'to the tube 1', the tubular member 8 and the parts connecting it with the tubular member 7, forms the guide for the movements of the telescoping tube 1 and tubular member 7. The U-shaped parts thus telescope .one within the other.
The wall of the tubular member 8, if desired, may be slotted and the tube 6 may be Specification of Letters Patent.
' tube 1 with respect to the tu also be placed idl provided with designating numbers or letters to indicate the relative ositionsof the Bular member 7 so that the relative positions of the tube 1 to Patented July 29, 1919. Application filed m 5, 1919. Serial No. aesgosa.
form the difi'erent notes, may be indicated.
The designating numbers or'notes or letters 12 are so located on thetube 6 that they will appear through the slot 9 formed in the 7 tubular member 8.
In the form of the invention illustrated in Fig. 2, the tubular members 7 and 8 may be replaced by a U-shaped member 13 and the parts 5 and 6 may be replaced by a tubular member 14 which is connected to the tube 1. If desired, also the mouth-piece of the whistle may be provided with a lip engaging member 4. If desired, a scale mayon eitherone of the parts 13 or 14: or the tube 1 to indicate the relative positions of ,thejparts to sound the different notes.
1. A device of the. character described comprising a whistle tube, a tube slidably mounted on said whistle tube a gulde rigsupported from the whistle tube, atube sli able on said guide, and means for connecting the tube slidably mounted on the whistle tube with the tube slidably mounted on the rigid guide.
2. A whistle comprising a whistle tube, a-
tube slidably mounted with respect thereto, a guide rigidly carried b saldwhistle tube, and means carried by t e guide and connected with the sliding tube for guiding the movements thereof.
3. A device of the character described comprisin a whistle tube, a tube slidably mounted t ereon,'a guide rigidly carried by the whistle tube, a tube slidably mounted on said guide, and means connecting the shdably mounted tube on the guide w1th the tube slidably mounted on the whistle tube for moving said tubes in unison.
4. A device of the character described comprising a whistle tube, a tube slidably v mounted thereon, a guiderigidly carried by said whistle tube and lying in the same plane therewith, a tube having a longitudinally extending cut out portion and shdably mounted on said guide, means for connectin the tube slidab y mounted on the wlnstl tu guide for moving the two in unison, and a with the tube slidably mounted onthe" plurality of designating characters on the guide and displayed through the longitudinal cut out portion of the tube carried thereby.
\5. A device of the character described comprising a Whistle member, a U-shaped tubular member connected to the Whistle member, and a. second U-shnped tubular member telescoping with the first named U-shaped member. s
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name to this specification.
it GEORGE HAKIUS.
