- Be it known that I, MAIK KURKA, a citizen of Ukraine, residing at Toronto,.1n the Prova ince of Ontario and Dominion of. Canada, have invented certain new and useful 1mprovements in Flycatcher-s, of which the following is a specification. l The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device for catching and re taining flies and insects from the air in large quantities without the employment of any bait, poisonous substance, or other lure.
A further object of the invention is to provide means whereby an electric motor may be employed for removing the flies from the adjacent atmosphere, it being an easy matter to remove the flies after being caught in my device.
The invention will be now fully described in connection with the accompanying drawings in which like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view showing a portion of the invention in side elevation and the remainder thereof in vertical section.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken upon line Ill-11 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 is an elevational view of a portion of the rear of the casing employed with the invention.
Broadly considered, the invention comprises an electric motor 10 mounted upon a suitable standard 11, with the fan 12 secured to the shaft 13 of the motor and mounted within a circular casing 14 whereby flies may be drawn through the funnel-shaped entrance 15 into the casing 14 by means of the fan 12.
The motor 10 is adjustably mounted upon the top of'the standard 11 by a pivot bolt 16 while the standard has a suitable base 17 at the bottom thereof for seating upon a conveniently positioned surface such as 18. The casing 14 which is circular in section is of pill-box form secured to the motor 10 by brackets 19 with the motor shaft 13 projecting axially into the casing.
The funnel-shaped inlet 15 is carried by the outer side 20 of the casing 14, which side is in the form of a disk hingedly mounted as at 21 forming a lid'for the casing. A spring latch 22 upon the top of the casing 14 engages the adjacent edge of the lid 20 for normally maintaining the lid closed. The fan 12 is of the usual construction em- 7 FLYCATCHER.

ployed for'withdrawing or exhausting air from a room by drawing the airthrough the inlet 15 into the casing 14 by creating a partial vacuum within the casing when the fan is rapidly revolved. An inner wallor partition 23 is provided within the casing 14 with-the fan 12 revolving in the chamber within the partition 23 whereby the air drawn into the casing is forced into the space 24 between the partition 23 and the outer wall of the casing 14 through the space 25 at one end of the partition 23.
Any flies which are near the enlarged open end 26 of the inlet 15 will be drawn into the casing 14 through the said inlet by the rapidly revolving fan 12 and will be forced through the opening 25 into the space 24 Where the draft of air will carry the flies to the inner end of the space 24 at which point a bottom 27 is provided and the flies may then be removed by opening the slide 28 arranged between guides 29 upon the rear wall 30 of the casing 14.
A plurality of openings 31 are provided through the wall 30 into the space 24 with screens 32 over the perforations whereby the air from the fan is permitted to exhaust from the casing for maintaining a constant draft and circulation. The power of the fan 12 depends upon the rapidity with which the same is revolved by the motor 10 and the fly-catching operation is continuous with the revolving of the fan. My fly-catcher is sanitary and does not require renewing of parts but only the removal of the flies which collect in the normally closed end or pocket of the space 24.
What I claim as new is 1. A fly-catcher comprising a motor having a power shaft, a pill-box shaped casing carried by the motor with the shaft axially positioned therein, a curved partition within the casing spaced from the outer sides thereof and opening into the casing at one end of the partition, a slide in the rear wall of the casing adjacent the other end of the partition communicating with the space between the partition and the outer wall of the casing and a suction fan upon said shaft centrally of the casing within said partition.
2. A fly-catcher comprising a motor having a power shaft, a pill-box shaped casing carried by the motor with the shaft axially positioned therein, a curved partition within the casing spaced from the outer sides thereof and opening into the casing at one end oi the partition, a slide in the rear wall of the casing adjacent the other end of the partition communicating with the space between the partition and the outer wall of the easing, a suction fan upon said shaft centrally of the casing within said partition, a flaring inlet upon" the front wall of the casing communicating With the fan inwardly of the partition and screened outlet ports for the air in the rear wall of the casing connnunieating with the space between the partition and outer wall of the casing at a point adj acent said slide.
