Description

H. HILL.
PAPER 0B SIMILAR CUP.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 19. 191B.
Patented July 22, 1919.
' v lNVENTOR 15 629777565 12522;;
.HIE'I: HILL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIG-N'OB. 'ro I'ArEn UTILITIES CORPORATION, a CORPORATION NEW YORK.
I To all whom it may concern:
IAIER 0R SIMILAR CUP.
Application filed November 19, 1918. Serial No. 263,237.
avenue, New York city,) have invented a new and useful Paper or Similar Cup, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to form a cup out of a circular disk of paper or similar substance which will have plaited sides and a rolled edge which gives stiffness so that the cup will require no stiffening medium as paraflin and yet will be sufliciently stiff and firm for all practical purposes when in use. This and other objects are accomplished by my invention, one embodiment of which is hereinafter more particularly set forth.
For a more detailed description of my invention, reference should be had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figurel is a perspective View of my improved cup.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Fig. 4' is a sectional view taken on the line similar parts.
My improved cup 1 is made from a single disk of paper or equivalent material and is provided with a bottom 2 and plaited sides 3 of the conventional kind. Near its top it is slightly corrugated at 4 and curled 0utwardly and downwardly and then downwardly and inwardly and finally upwardly against the exterior to form reinforced,
curled lip 5. This lip 5 is three ply thick throughout the greater portion of Its length as the overlap of the laits is almost enough to reach from one plait to the next. For all practical purposes, this lip 5 may be regarded as three plyin thickness, and as it is round in cross section, it is stifi enough to prevent the cup from collapsing when in use even when considerable pressure is exerted against it.
One advantage of this is that no parafin or other wax is required when making the cup and so it may be used with hot liquids as tea, coffee, cocoa, chocolate, broths, etc., and When so used will not weaken or collapse.
This invention is not confined to the precise embodiment herein shown and described, but is broad enough to cover all inventions that come within the scope of the annexed claim.
What I claim is:
A substantially circular paper cup madev HARRIET HILL.
