EDWARD M. GOLLIS, OF PRINCETON, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN FLOUR AND MEAL CHESTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,898, dated August 27, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, E. M. GoLLIs, of Princeton, in the county of Gibson, and in the State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flour and Meal-Chest, 850.;
and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a flour and meal chest, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view, and Fig. 2
' a longitudinal vertical section, of my invention.
A represents the box or chest provided with an inclined hinged lid, B. This chest or box is intended to stand against the wall, and when so placed the wall acts as a support to the lid when the chest is opened and the lid turned back against the wall. Attached to the under side of the lid B is a folding shelf, 0, which is self-supporting when unfolded. It is to be folded when the lid is shut and unfolded when the lid is turned back against the wall, and is used for the purpose of setting pie-pans, biscuit-pans, &c., while being prepared for baking, The hinged lid B does not extend over the entire top of the chest, but leaves at the rear a horizontal strip, E, to the front edge of which the lid is hinged. The sides or end pieces of the chest slant forward from the strip E, so that the lid B will be in an inclined position when shut down. Under the strip E is a shelf, I), intended to hold pie-pans, &c., when not being used, and under said shelf are hooks a cto receive the rolling-pin. At the side of the shelf D are drawers G G to receive soda, spices, 8:0. The body of the box or chest is, by two partitions, II H, divided into three compartments-one, the largest, for flour, and the other two for meal and buckwheat. The two last compartments are covered by a sliding cover, I, and the flour-compartment by the biscuit-board J. The cover I and board J may be moved sidewise without interfering with each other, or having to remove one to move the other. On the cover I under the drawers G G is placed a bread-tray,.K. In the flour-compartment is a hook, I), on which to hang the flour-scoop L.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the box A with strip E, lid B, shelvesO D, hooks to a and 1), drawers Gr G, partitions H H, cover I, board J, and tray K, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 28th day of June, 1872.
EDWARD M. COLLIS.
