OVEN-VENTILATOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 8, 1919.
Application filed October 22, 1917. Serial No. 197,959.
T 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, FERDINAND Kmorr- Horr, Sn, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Manitowoc, in the county of Manitowoc and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Oven-Ventilators, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
This invention has for its object to provide a ventilator for the ovens of ranges and the like which will carry off the smoke and gases and prevent them from contaminating the food cooking within the oven and from entering the room when the oven door is opened.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the oven ventilator as herein claimed and all equivalents.
Referring to the accompanying drawings,
in which like characters of eference indif Copies oi this patent may be obtained for cate the same parts in the different views:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a range having an oven equipped with an oven ventilator in accordance with this invention, the top of the range being removed and the corner of the oven being broken away to show the ventilator; and,
Fig. 2 is a detail view of the ventilating tube.
In these drawings 10 indicates the stove or range proper and 11 is the usual oven thereof with the swinging door 12. The arrangement shown is that which is usually found in kitchen ranges, the fire pot 13 being located on one side of the oven and having a flue space leading therefrom over the top of the oven and down between the other side of the oven and the water reservoir 14, and
1 then beneath the oven to the smoke pipe 15 at the rear of the oven. Instead of the oven being tightly sealed by the closed oven door, the present invention provides for a ventilating outlet and this is preferably located in the side wall of the oven next to the descending flue and preferably about an inch and a half from the top of the oven and about three inches from the oven door.
Through such opening is passed a metal tube 16 of an angular form, as shown in Fig. 2, with one end threaded and fitting in the opening in the side of the oven with nuts 17 threaded thereon and bearing against the opposlte sides of the oven wall, while the other end extends downwardly in the direction of the flow of smoke and gas from the fire pot. This downwardly extending outer end of the ventilating pipe 16 insures against a flow of the fuel gas into the oven and at the same time causes the downwardly flowing fuel as to draw air through the tube by induct on and thus draw the gas and smoke from the interior of the oven.
By means of this invention the smoke and gas caused by the overflow of materials being baked in the oven will be drawn out of the oven through the ventilating tube 16 and so will not contaminate the food or fill the room. In this manner the smoke and gas from materials scorched in an overheated oven, or from the overflow of materials, will -be taken out of the oven and conducted along with the smoke and gas from the burning fuel and carried away through the chimney.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a range having an oven with a flue space passing over the top and down one side thereof and with a fire pot on the other side thereof, the side wall of the oven next to the said flue space being provided with an opening near the top of the oven and near the oven door, said even being tightly closed by the oven door except for the outlet through such opening, and an angularly shaped metal tube with one end threaded and passed through said opening and with the other end extending downwardly into the flue space at the side of the oven, and nuts threaded on said threaded end of the tub]? and engaging opposite sides of the oven wa In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
