Be it known that I, JOHN BUsHKoVsKn a citizen of the United States, and a member of the American Expeditionary Forces, have invented new and useful Improvements in Picture-Frames, of which the following is a specification. v

This invention relates to picture frames and the principal object of the invention is to provide means whereby the main part of l the frame will be hidden by the picture.

Another object of the invention is to make the frame adjustable so that it may be made to lit pictures of different sizes.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and eflicient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost.

The invention also consists in certain .other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to thu accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and 1n which Figure 1 is a front view of the invention with parts omitted and one of the securing `means in inoperative position.

Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through one ofthe sides of the frame. FFig. 3 is the section on the line 3 3 of FFig. 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 5 is a view of the frame with the picture and glass plate in position.

Fig. 6 is a view of the rear of the frame.

As shown in these views, the frame consists of a plurality of angle members 1 and 2 which are telescopically connected with each other to enable the frame to be adjusted to accommodate pictures of different sizes. As shown the sections 1 have their endsengaging in the sections 2. I prefer to form the sections of tubular formation with their front faces flattened as at 3. The ends of the sections 1 are pointed as at 4 to facilitate their entrance into the sections 2. I prefer to make the frame of metal,

though of course, it will be understood that it may be made of any suitable material. The-sections 2 are provided with thickened portions 5 on their rear faces which are provided with screw threaded holes to receive clamping screws 6. These screws engage the sections 1 to clamp said sections together.

Each limb of the sections 2 is provided with a projection 7 at the side thereof which is provided with a screw threaded hole to receive the screw 8 which holds a spring plate 9 in position on said projection. I prefer to make this spring plate in the form of a leaf. Each plate is adapted to be swung on the screw 8 so that it may be moved into the position shown'in full lines at the bottom of the frame in Fig. 1 to permit the placing of the picture and the covering glass on the flat part of the frame sections. After the glass and picture are placed in position the spring plates are swung over the same so that they will hold the picture and glass on the frame by spring tension. The spring plates are curved as shown in Fig. 3 to provide a flattened part 10 to engage the glass. The picture and glass are also clamped in position by means of the clamping screws 11 placed at the corners of the frame and provided with a swiveled base 12 made of rubber or other suitable material. These screws are carried by a bracket 13 secured to or formed with the sections at the corners thereof. These brackets are of angular form so as to form a recess for receiving the corners of the picture and glass. I prefer to cover the set screws by means of an ornamental plate 14, shown as being in the form of a leaf, which is carried by a spring clip 15 of hooked form and adapted to engage the sections of the frame adjacent the corners thereof as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 4.

It will thus be seen that all parts of the frame excepting the ornamental plates 9 and 14 are entirely covered by the picture. It will also be seen that the frame may be adjusted to fit pictures of different sizes.

It is thought'from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.

I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:
