SETH M. HINO, 0F OIIiTON, OKLAHOMA.
I ADJUSTABLE HANGER- Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed. May 23, 1916, Serial 1:... 99374 Renewed May 6, 1919. Serial No. 295,108.
To all whom it may concern: Beit known that I, SETH M.JHINO, a c1t1- zen of the United States, residingat Oilton,
in the county ofCreek and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to hangers and more particularly to anadjustable hanger preferably, though not essentially, adapted for adjustably holding an article for display purposes.
permit of the The primary object of my invention resides in the provision of an adjustable hanger embodying preferably two adjustably connected sections having means in con nection therewith for releasably locking the section in various positions to consequently supporting of an article at a predetermined height, this device being preferably adapted for use in retail stores to enable the proprietor to expeditiously display his goods to a prospective purchaser.
- Another object of my invention resides in the provision of a novel means for controlling the operation of the 'lockingmeans and for moving the sections into the desired adjusted position.
A further object of my invention resides in the provision of a device of thezcharacter described that is simple in construction, efficient in operation and one that can be manufactured and placed on the market at a minimum cost.
Other objects as well as the nature, char-- acteristic features and scope of my invention will be more readily understood from the following description takenin connection with the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims forming a part of this specification.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of my invention;
Fig. 2 is link.
Referring more particularly to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate like or corresponding parts throughout the different views, I provide a hanger formed preferably in two sections, the preferred form being made of rod iron, although it is to be understood that metal a top planview of the locking Patented Jane 24, 1919.
looped as at 2 and associated with an eye bolt 3, the latter'being threaded to facilitate engagement with the wall of a room.
The opposite end of the rod 1 is bent to prov de a loop 4, and the extreme terminal of the rod 1 is further bent to provide a snnilar sized loop 5. The loop 5 is placed at right angles to the loop 4 and has its lower slde edge in the same plane as the lower edge of the loop 4,. Slidably associated with the loop 5 is the other section or rod 6, the upper end of which is bent at right angles and terminates in a loop 7 that isplaced about the rod 1 to permit sliding movement.
The loops 5 and 7 permit sliding movement formed from rod metal of a similar material to the rods 1 and 6 and has one end bent to provide a loop 10 to cooperate with the 1100p lof the rod 1. The opposite end of the link 9 being bent to provide another loop 11 which is disposed at right angles to 1 the loop10 and has movably connectedtherein the looped end 12 of a locking link 13. The outer end of this link 13 is provided with an opening or eye 1 1 that is slidable on the rod 6. This opening or eye is preferably of a diameter slightly larger than the diameter of the rod 6, so that the upper and lower edges of the opening are adapted to bitingly engage with the rod, and thus maintain the rod 6 in various adjusted positions with respect to the rod 1.
In order to remove the locking link 13 from engagement With-the rod 6 to permit of a further adjustment of the rod 6, I have.
attached one end of a string or cable 15to an eye 16 carried by the free edge of the locking link. The string extends upwardly and is passed through another eye 17 carried by the loop 5 from which the string hangs Within easy reach of the operator.
nection with the accompanying The operation of myinvention is as follows:
Assuming that the device has been assemr bled as illustratedin Fig.1 of the accompanying drawings and that an article is suspended from the hook 8, in further-adjusting the device, the string 15 is engaged and pulled downwardly, consequently lifting the locking link 13 and thereby releases the rod 6 which will fall downwardly or be held in a certain position pf adjustment, whereupon by releasing the string 15, the force of gravity will cause the link 13 to again engage the rod and maintain the suspended article, not shown, in an adjusted position, the
weight of which article on the rod 6 inci-,
dentally increases the eflicient engagement of the locking link 13. 1
Although I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I desire to be understood that I am not to be limited to the exact details shown, however, I desire that great stress be laid upon the arrangement of the adj ustably connected sections as well as the locking link associated longitudinally for maintaining the sections in an adjusted position. a
From the above description taken in condrawings, it can easily be seen that I have provided a device that is simple in construction, containing but a few simple parts that can be cheaply manufactured and (assembled and when assembled can be placed upon the market and sold at a minimum cost.
It will be understood that the abovedesoription and accompanying drawings comprehend only the preferred embodiment of my invention and that variousminor changes in detail of construction, proportion and arrangement of the parts may be made within the scope of the appended claims and without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention. I
copies of thi patent may be obtained {or five cents each, by addressing the v Washington, D. 0.
link, the other of Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A hanger comprising a pair of slidably connected spaced rods, means for removably securing the upper end of one of said rods to a suitable support, a loop formed on the lower end of one of the rods and adapted to engage with the other rod,a loop formed upon the latter rod for encircling and engaging with the firstrod, said loops serving to maintain the alinement of the two'rods in their various adjusted positions, a locking link pivotally connected to one of the rods and adapted to encircle the other rod for holding the rods in their several adjusted positions, and means for releasing saidlocking link.
2. A hanger comprising a pair of slidably connected rods, one of said rods having an eye formed at one end and a plurality of eyes adjacent the opposite end at-right angles toeach other, a link having eyes at its ends, one of said eyes being connected to the intermediate eye formed in the rod, a
second link having eyes, one of which is connected with the remaining eye of the first said rods beingprovided with an eye formed at right angles to the rod to encircle the first rod, said rodbeing formed with a hook atits lower end, the
remaining eye of the second link encircling and adapted to engage with the second rod to hold thesame in diiierent positions relative to the first rod, means for movlng the second link out of engagement, and means to secure the hanger to a supporting member. a
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presenceof two witnesses.
