Description
H. J. GEER.
COMBINED TOY WRIST WATCH AND WHISTLE. APPLICATION FILED FEB. 20. 19w.
1,306,662. v Patented June 10, 1919.
@gv I v Mommas UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
HENRY J. GEEK, 0F PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
Application filed February 20. 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY J. GEEK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Toy Wrist-Watches and \Vhistles; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to toys, and it relates more specifically to a. combined toy wrist-watch and whistle.
One object of this invention is to provide a device of this character in which a body simulating a watch and comprising a whistle is spaced from the strap or attaching element that secures it to the wrist of a person, thereby providing an air-passage or space through which air may pass out from the whistle.
A further object is to provide a device of this character consisting of only a few very simple parts so that the cost of manufacture is minimized.
Other objects and advantages may become apparent to persons who read the following details of description in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my inhproved toy;
Fig. 2 is a front view of the toy;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged central sectional view, the section being taken along the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring to these drawings in detail, in which similar reference characters correspond with similar parts throughout the several views, the device consists of five primarily separate parts 5, 6, 7 8 and 9, respectively.
The part 5 comprises a cylindrical portion 10, an annular flange or inturned portion 11 and two apertured cars 12. Through the apertures 13 of these cars the strap or flexible attaching element 9 extends. and its intermediate portion spans or bridges the space between the apertures 13.
The members 7 and 8 are preferably concave-convex, and the concavo sides are turned inward toward one another, while their edges meet at 14. In other Words, these two members 7 and 8 are fitted together to form hollow may or thin' metal; or other Specification of Letters Patent.

appropriate material. vlded with an inlet opening 15, and the member is provided with an-outlet openmg 16. The member 6 is provided with an properly be considered as constitutinga single inlet opening. The member 7 is formed with adial 18 to simulate that of a watch, and this dial is visible through the member 6 which is formed of any appropriate transparent material. The periphery of the member 8 may be secured within the cylindrical wall 10 by any appropriate means, and the relative circumferences of the members 5 and 8 may be such that the latter fits tight enough in the member 5 to be held by the frictional engagement of the outer periphery of the member 8 and the inner periphery of the member 5.
The ears 12 are preferably made integral with the cylindrical part 10 of the member 5, and these ears extend laterally of the surface having the outlet aperture 16 therein. The lateral extent of the ears 12 beyond the last mentioned surface is sufficient to provide an air-passage between the element 9 and the outlet opening 6 when the "adj acent portion of the attaching element is straight, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, or even when it is somewhat bowed or bent toward the opening 16. In other words, if a straight line is drawn between the inner edges ofthe apertures 13, the distance between such line and the opening 16 will be more than sufficient to provide a passage for the air which is necessary to make a Whistling sound when a person blows into the inlet opening 17 Therefore, it will be seen that when the strap 9 is placed around the wrist of a person, even the lateral curvature of the wrist is not ordinarily sufficient to close the space between the opening 6 and the adjacent part of the strap 9. Moreover, the ears 12 are sulficiently pliable to enable them to be bent so as to bring their outer ends nearer one another, so that when the device is to be applied to an unusually small and cylindrical wrist, the distance between the opening 16 and strap 9 is increased, while the geometrical chord (represented by a line connecting the apertures 13, in connection with the curve of the strap 9) is shortened.
Although I have described this embodi v The member 7 is proment of my invention veryspeeifically, it
is not intended to" l'niiit this ewes-eon to these exact details of description and arrangement of parts, but I .am entitle'dto.
make changes within the scope of the inventive idea disclosed in theforegoing descri13- tion and following claim.
