To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUST J. FREY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Faucet Clamps or Couplings, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to clamps or couplings and more particularly to clamps for faucets and has for its object the production of a simple and inexpensive clamp which may be easily and expeditiously clamped to or unclamped from the faucet and by means of which a hose or tubing may be coupled thereto so as to utilize the stream of water flowing from the faucet at a point other than at the mouth thereof.
A further object of the invention is the production of a clamp having the above characteristics which shall also be adapted to be effectively clamped to a faucet or pipe irrespective of the configuration of the fancet or pipe.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description, the invention consisting in the novel parts and combinations of parts hereinafter more particularly described and then specified in the claim.

1 indicates the top or cover portion of a cylindrical and sheet metal supporting box provided with a hole 2 adapted to receive the end of a faucet or pipe 3 and f indicates the base or cooperating portion of the box provided with a conventional form of nipple 5 preferably integral therewith and adapted to receive and hold firmly a hose or rubber tubing 6. The top 1 and base 4 are each provided with a threaded neck so that they may be screwed together, and their ends or ,heads each has an annular bead 7 formed thereon as is illustrated.

The said core or filler 8 is adapted to restin and 'be supported by the box hereinbefore described and to be compressed into clamping position or released therefrom by a simple turning of either the top 1 or base 4 or both of them. .The said core 8 is provided with an annular bead or edge 10 on either end thereof which engage the sides of the beads 7 and which extend upwardly into the corners of the box as is illustrated.
Then it is desired to attach the clamp to the faucet or pipe 3 the box containing the compressible core or filler 8 is unscrewed if necessary until the core is not under compression and the box is then slipped on the end of the faucet so that the faucet extends not only through the hole 2 but also completely through the opening 9 in the core. To effect a clamping of the device to the faucet 3 the top 1 or base 4 or both of them are turned so as to move them nearer together thereby compressing the core and forcing it to firmly grip the faucet due to the decreasing of the diameter of the hole 9 when the core is under compression. When in clamped position the device is firmly held to the faucet as is shown in Fig. 1. A. reverse turning or unscrewing of the top or base of the supporting box permits the core to expand and assume its normal shape thereby releasing it from its compressed and clamped position and permitting the device to be easily slipped off the faucet as is manifest.
When the device is in cla ed position, water from the faucet will fibw into the nipple 5 and through the tube 6. The beads 7 not only act to assist in compressing the core when the top and base of the box are screwed together but they also form in conjunction with the core and with the beads 10 thereof a seal at either end of the box to prevent any inflow of water therein.-
My improved clamp is particularly desirable because of its simplicity and on account of the ease with which it may be operated. Also, as is obvious, the core being of rubber, that part thereof surrounding the faucet or clamped member conforms in shape to the shape of the faucet so that the configuration of the faucet does not affect the effectiveness and operative'ness of the device as it may be square, round or any other shape.
What I claim as my invention is In a clamp, a compressible spool-shaped core provided with an annular head on either end thereof and having a clamping opening extending longitudinally therethrough from end to end and a sheet metal box supporting said core therein and comprising a top portion having an opening through Which the clamped member is adapted to extend downwardly through the clamping opening of the core and a base portion having a nipple extending therefrom, said top portion and base portion becore into clamping position or release the same therefrom.
