To all whom it may concm Be it known that I, HENRY E. FROMBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Crandall, in the county of Day, State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Music-Leaf Turners; and I do hereby deolare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. r
This invention relates to improvements in music leaf turners, and has for its primary object to provide a device by means of which a sheet or leaf of music may be turned from one side to the other of the music support.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is foldable into compact form for the purpose of rendering it readily portable.

Re eri-ing more particularly to the drawings, 1 represents a casing which is formed of substantially equal shallow sections mounted upon the hinges 2, so that the casing may be closed, and when covered with suitable leather or other material, will have somewhat the appearance of a music case. Mounted within one of the sections of the casing 1 is a lower bearing device 3 and an upper bearing 4. The upper bearing 4 is hinged upon a plate 5 which is pivotally Secured to the inside horizontal face of the upper side' of the casing section, so that the bearing 4: may be swung so as to lie wholly within the section or may be projected therefrom. The lower bearing 3 is pivoted upon the lower side of the casing section, directly below the bearing 4, and is also intended to Swing into the section or outwardly into vertical alinement with the bearing 4. Bearing openings 6 in the lower and upper bearings 3 and 4: provide supports for a vertical wire or spindle 7 which is adapted to be stepped into the lower bearing 3, and then inserted into the upper bearing l by lifting the hinged bearing and inserting the end of the spindle into the opening 6.
Within the opposite casing section, and Secured to the upper and lower sides thereof, are the bearings 8 within which are hingedly mounted the resilient arms 9. tThe upper arm 9 is adapted to be projected across the joint between the casing sections, and looped over the upper end of the spindle 7 when the latter is projected through the bearing 4: thereby looking the bearing 4 over the spindle. The lower arm 9 is provided with a looped end and is also aclapted to be projected across the joint between the casing sections, and is then looped over the lower end of the spindle, thereby looking the lower bearing 3 in its extended position, and also locking the spindle 7 within the bearing. The spindle 7 provides the hinge support for a pair of leaf holding frames 10. Each of the frames 10 consists of a wire element shaped into three sides of a rectangular structure whose fourth side is formed by a bracing element ll. The free ends of the wire lengths are shaped into the hinge coils 12 which are received over the ends of the spindles 7, and when the hinge coils-are assembled it is to be noted that one of them is spaced from the other on the spindle so that coil springs 13 may be interposed between the hinge coils and have, its ends so connected to the latter that under normal conditions the frames 10 are thrown together. The coils 12 are held in their recited spaced relation on the spindle or shaft 7 by collars 12 secured on the spindle or shaft at the outer sides of each pair of adjacent coils. Furthermore, the frames 10 are shaped into the spaced fingers 14 which provide around the edge of the frames more eXt-ended bearings for the 'proper retention of a sheet of music.
Upon the lower side of the edge of the casing sections, there is hinged a b-racket 14:'
16 of an angularly shaped support 17 may be engaged, the free end of the shank or stem 16 being hooked as at 18, to be adjustably inserted in one of a seres of openings 19 stamped into the body of the bracket 1 1'. The lower end of the angularly shaped bracket 17 provides a hearing for a lever arm 20 whose forward end is provided with a finger hold 20'. Adjacent its forward end, the lever 20 has Secured thereto one end of a. cable 21 which passes thence through a guide loop 22 formed on the upper end of the corresponding bracket 16, and is then secured at 21 to a properly selected point on the lower member of the frame 10. The second half of the cable 21 is then passed in like manner through the opposite bracket 16 and connected to the forward end of the opposite lever arm 20. In its course, however, the cable 21 is passed through an arcuate guide groove 23 which is shaped upon the forward end of the lower bracket 3, by shaping the edge of the metal into an outturned arcuate channel. The point of connection 21 of the cable 21 to the frame 10 is chosen so that it moves practically in the path 'of the groove or channel 23 when the frame is swtmg from one side to the other, the cable being thereby properly retained in the hearing, and eXerting a constant operative pull upon the frame when one or the other of the Operating handles 2 0 is actuated. The manner of unfolding and setting up the music leaf turner has been clearly brought out in the 'course of the foregoing description. In using the device, a sheet of music is placed between the frames 10 'where it is held 'by means of the tension eX- erted by 'the springs 13. Then, the first page of :the music .having been played, the left hand lever 20 is depressed, thereby drawing the cable 21 from right to lftg This action, by reason of the fact that the cable is guided over the groove 23 swings the frame 10 out of the right hand casing section, and carries it into the left hand side. From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that I have provideda very simple and practical device for Conveniently and efi'ectively turning sheets of music, and that it may also be employed for carrying music to the place of performance. t i What I claim as my invention is 1. A music leaf turner comprising a support, a shaft carried thereby, a frame journaled on the shaft at spaced points, a second frame journ'aled on the :shaft at 'points spaced outwardly of' the first frame, coil springs on the shaft between adjacent pairs of turning points and having their ends engageable with the frames to resilently urge them together, and means for turning aid frames simultaneously 011 the shaft.
