To all, whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ANTHONY M. MooHULsKY, a citizen of Poland, residing at New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Creeper Attachments, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in creepers of the types adapted to be applied to shoes, and has as its special object the provision of means which may be readily engaged with, or disengaged from, the soles of ordinary shoes having considerable difference in their sizes.

Another object is to provide such devices, with a plurality of engaging points adapted to engage in the manner of spurs with the surface over which the person is traveling, thereby preventing them from slipping if the surface be icy or in a slippery conditlon.

These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a bottom plan view showing a conventional type of shoe and indicating the application of the invention.

A pair of thin metallic plates, respectively 10 and 11, are formed with angular elements 12, having inturned edges 13, adapted to engage upon opposite sides of the sole of a shoe so as to be firmly held therewith, these plates being preferably made right and left in conformity with the shoe to which they are to be attached.

The surfaces 10 and 11 of the plates rest directly against the sole of the shoe, while the inturned flanged edges 13 are adapted to make contact with the upper marginal edge of the sole in an obvious manner.

The inner portions of the plates 10 and 11 are pivotally engaged by loosely fitting rivets 14, with rectangular 1plates 15, the sharp angular corners 16 of w ich are downturned, forming projections,prongs or spurs 17, adapted to engage with the surface, these plates being arranged closely adjacent, and secured by screws 18, with a base 19 Specification of Letters Patent.

the screws having pointed ends 20, and are clamped by means of nuts 21, in engagement with the plate 19, the screws passing through a slot 22 formed in the plate while below the head of the screws 18 are washers 23 so that the plates 15 can be moved to or from each other, adjusting the engaging plates 10 and 11 to the sides of the shoe.

Extending rearwardly from the plate 19 is an angular projection 24 containing a slot 25 in which is a screw 26, the same having a conically beveled point 27, held in position by a clamp nut 28. A similar slot 30 is formed in a link plate 31, connected at its outer end by a pivotal rivet 33 with the outer side of a plate 34 having an angularly turned element 35 adapted to engage with the edge of the sole of a shoe and held in position by an overhanging flange 36 normally resting upon the upper marginal surface of the shoe sole.

Set in the outer surface of the element 35 is a hub 37 screw-threaded to receive the body of a screw 38 having an extending "I" shaped head 39 by which it may be manipulated.

In operation, the elements 10 and 11 having been assembled upon the sole of a shoe, so that the flanges 12 contact with the edges of the sole and the nuts 20 firmly clamped in position, the plate 34: being positioned rearward in engagement with the solo, at a point below the instep and set so that the link 31 tends to draw the element 15 toward the heel and the screw 38, so manipulated as to stress the connecting link 31, holds the device firmly engaged wlth the shoe, and it will be obvious that upon relaxing the screw 38 the device may be readily removed so that the shoe may be used in its normal condition.

From the foregoing it will be seen that an effective device is presented, which may be readily removed or applied and when engaged with the sole of a shoe afiords an emcient protection from falling or slipping by the wearer thereof.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a creeper, the combination with a pair of side plates having angular extensions adapted to engage with the sole of a shoe, of a pair of rectangular plates, having angularly outturned spur corners pivotally engaged with the first named plates, a can ter plate engaged with said spur plates, means for adjusting the spur plates on said center plate, a link pivotally engaged with said center plate, and means for securing said link to the sole of a shoe.

2. In a creeper, the combination with a pair of elements adapted to engage with the sole of a shoe, a pair of creeper plates pivotally engaged with said elements, spurs formed at the corners of said creeper plates,

a center plate pivotally and adjustably engaged with said creeper plates, a projection formed with said center plate, said projection having an elongated slot, a link also having an elongated slot, an adjustable connection between said link and said projection, a clamp plate engageable with the sole of the shoe at a point toward the heel thereof, and pivoted connections between said clamp plate and said link whereby the plates may be firmly engaged with the sole of the shoe.
