Description

G. R. CLUXTON.
improvement in Cider-Mills.
N0. 130,192. I Patented Aug. 6,1872.
UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
GEORGE R. CLUXTON, OF RIPLEY, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN CIDER-MILLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,192, dated August G, 1872.
SPEomIcATIoN.
To altwhom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, GEORGE R. CLUxToN,
I of Ripley, in the county of Adams and State part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction 'and arrangement of a cidermill, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its constructionand operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 represents a longitudinal section of my cider-mill, and Fi g. 2 represen ts a rear view of the jaws.
A represents the frame-work of my cidermill, the upper beams of which are on an inclined plane, as shown. On this frame is secured a box, B, having at its upper end a hopper, O, in which the apples are placed. From the hopper the apples pass on to a stationary head or jaw, D, secured in the frame A, and forming the bottom of the box B. This stationary jav may be made of metal, or of wood lined with metal, or of any other suitable material, and is grooved longitudinally at suitable distances apart on the upper side. Upon the stationary jaw D works the movable jaw E, which is provided on its under side with rows of teeth, a a, corresponding with the grooves in the stationary jaw D. The lower end of the jaw E is pivoted to two slides, b b, which move in ways or guides del on theupper surface ofthe top side beams of the frame A. The jaw E is operated by means of one or two eccentrics, G G, attached to a shaft, H, which is mounted in suitable journal-boxes on upright posts forming part of the frame A. This shaft is, at one end, provided with a iiy-wheel, I, and at other end with a crank J, for turning. Each of the eccentrics G is surrounded by a band, f, attached to the upper side of the jaw The jaws, of whatever material they may 'be made, should be plated with zinc to prevent rust. The teeth in the upper jaw pass in the grooves on the under jaw and drag the apples down toward the throat K arranged in the frame A at the lower end of the stationary jaw, the drawing motion of the upper jaw being caused by the eccentrics G G, which also give it an open-and-shut and a reciprocating motion.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The stationary jaw D, grooved longitudina-lly, as described, in combination with the movable jaw E, provided with teeth a a, substantially as and for the purposes 'herein set forth.
2. The combination of the eccentrics G, movable jaw E, slides b, and ways or guides d, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
3. The combination of the frame A, box B, hopper O, jaws D E, slides b, guides d, eccentrics G, shaft H, and throat K, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that .I claim the foregoing as my own I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE It. OLUXTON.4
