and useful Improvement in Dispensing Apparatus, of which the following is a specification. V

The object of this invention is to provide an eflicient dispensing or vending device,v

especially adapted for dispensing cigars, or cigarettes and matches, andfurther so ar- 7 ranged that the delivery of either one of the former will simultaneously deliver a match. It is further my special object to make my device of the humidor type, and also to arrange the construction and operation of my device on very simple plans, so that the device may be easily and inexpensively built.

The means by which I attain my object are fully illustrated in the accompanying,

drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a front elevation of the devlce- Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken approximately on the line 22 of Figs. 1 and 4;

Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken on the line 3-3 of Figs. 1 and 4:; and

Fig. 4 is a vertical section taken on the line 4-4: of Figs. 2 and 3.

The receptacle comprises a case having a base a, front 1), top 0, side-walls (Z, and back 6. Inside the case at the sides are partitions and the back g. The partitions f are provided with the cut-out portions 7. An inclined floor it extends between the partitions f, the rear partition 9 and the front 6, and the compartment thus formed above the floor his adapted to hold a plurality of cigars i. In the rear of the cigar-holding compartment, (see Fig. 3) is a sponge chamber j adapted to hold the moist sponge k, which keeps the humidity in the compartment to the desired degree. A hinged cover 0, provides a means of access to the cigar compartment.

Journaled between the end-walls of the cigar compartment is a transverse rock shaft Z upon which is fixed the resilient rockable gate m. This gate restrains all except the forward one of the lower layer of cigars from rolling down said inclined floor; the

forward cigar being, however, permitted to drop on the pan a carried by the extremities of apair of rockable arms 5, pivoting on a transverse pivot-pin 0.

In the lower portion of the case are the sliding drawers p and q, the former adapted to serveas a receptacle for matches and the latter for cigarettes. Said drawers are provided on their bottoms with tongues p and q respectively which slide in guide grooves in the base a of the case. On the rear ends of the drawers 3? and q are hooks p and g respectively. Flat springs r fixed on a bar 1" bearagainst the rear of each drawer, and normally tend to push the drawers out as shown in the broken lines of Fig. 2, to expose their contents.

' On a transverse pivot pin 7 are pivoted the hook levers t and it, their rear ends eX- tending through slots in the partition 9 and said rear ends bear in the slotted lower ends of the plunger rods '0 and to. Flat springs 25 and a normally tend to throw the forward ends of the hook levers ,t, u down. When the drawers 7;, g are shut, the hooks 79 9 will be engaged with the hook levers t, u, and thus prevent the springs t, u from acting to push the drawers out. The two plunger rods '21 and to extend vertically .downward in the space between the partition g and back 6. Brackets 9 form bearings for the lower end of the plunger rods, and compression coil springs 9 normally hold said rods in their up position. Pins 1; in the upper part of both rods slide on the fixed guide bars '0 and serve the two-fold purpose of limiting the upward movement of the plunger rods and at the same time preventing said rods from rotating.

Said arm at overlies the rear end of the hook lever 25 so that when the plunger rod w is depressed, both hook levers t and u will be lifted and both drawers 7) and Q will simultaneously be released and opened.

In the front I) of the case is hinged, on an axis 6 (see Figs. 3 and 4) a delivery door 6 and a bracket 6 fixed on the outer face of the front of the case, supports the door when dropped in a horizontal position. The inner face of this door is recessed as indicated by b in Fig. 3, so as to form a pocket for the cigar which is delivered thereon. of said bell-crank is slotted as indicated by 0 A pin '0 carried by the plunger rod '0 bears in said slot. The other arm of the bellcrank 0 is pivoted to an operating arm m fixed on the rock shaft Z of the gate m. In this way, when the rod '0 is pushed down, the gate will be rocked counter clockwise (see Figs. 2 and 3). The rockable arms 5 are also pivoted on the pivot-pin 0, and one of said arms is provided with an operating end 5 located slightly below the pin c on the push rod 12, and in the path of motion thereof (see Figs. 2 and 4). Stops 7 fixed on the side-walls limit the degree of rotation of the rockable arms 5.

The general operation of the device is as follows: Having reference to Fig. 3, it is to be noted that one of the cigars has dropped down onto the pan 'n, the others being held back by the gate m. When the plunger rod 4) is depressed, the bell-crank 0 will be rocked so as to swing the gate at in a counter clockwise direction having reference to Fig. 3. This action causes said gate to move the remaining cigars out of the way while the cigar on the pan 1% is being delivered.

In cooperation with said movement of the hasbeen thrown as shown in broken lines 7 in Fig. 2, the cigar will roll OK the pan n onto said door. Simultaneously with the delivery of the cigar, the match drawer 29 will be sprung open, and the user will then have a cigar and matches at his disposal.

hen the devices are returned to their normal position the next cigar will drop onto the pan a and be ready for delivery.

If the smoker wishes to smoke a cigarette, he will depress the plunger rod 10. In this case, both drawers 9 and Q will be sprung open, thereby permitting the operator to select a cigarette and a match. For the'purpose of convenience, a match striker plate 8 is fixed on the front of the box.

I claim:

In a dispensing apparatus comprising a case and inclined floor therein a pit at the lower end of the latter anda door located above such pit, the combination of a rockable arm extending to said pit and carrying a pan normally resting inthe latter, said door being provided with an inwardly projecting arm lying in the path of motion of one edge of said pan and whereby the door is opened upon the lifting of the latter, and means including a depressible rod for lifting said arm.
