Description
`w. SENK.`
Sash-Holders.
UNITED STATES WILLIAM SENK, OF SYRACUSE, NEW YORK.
IMPRovEMi-:NT IN sAsH-HoLDERs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 139,825, dated June 10, 1873 application filed April 8, 1873.
A To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM SENK, of Syracuse,4in the county of Onondaga and 'State of New York, have invented certain Im- L per sash.
A is a plate, of any light convenient form, as seen in the drawing, to which an ornamental lever, B, is pivoted. In this case the lever is a dolphin in sh'ape, but, of course, it can be some other device. The short arm of the lever is expanded, with a dovetail recess therein, into which a piece of India rubber is affixed at a. This projects beyond the end of the lever. Just `below this rubber a there is a hook, b, as clearly seen in Fig. 1, where the dolphins mouth forms the recess for the rubber a, and its beard below is curved into the form of a hook, b. This device is securely fastened to the window-sash C, and the rubber a bears against the frame D. At the point where the hook b comes when the window is closed I a'ix a metal plate E, with a catch, c, and recess d in it, to thee windowfraine D, so that the hook `b will hook over the catch c, and the rubber a will enter the recess d, by which the window becomes securely fastened. The pla te E is shown detached at E. It will be noticed that the longer projecting end of the lever B` is weighted to bring the other parts constautl y into action automatically. l
rlhe fastening shown at Fig. 2 is like that above described, but the lever is inclosed in a shell to be inserted through the upper sash,-
and is Without the hook b. These fastenings will hold the windows at any height when open, and when closed will securely fast-en them.
What I claim in -the above-described window-fastener is- The catch composed of the rubber a and hook b, constructed :1s-herein set forth, in combination with a catch-plate, E, having a recess, d, and catch c, as above specified.
y WILLIAM l SENK. Witnesses J. J. GREENOUGH, A. F. LEWIS.
