H. B. SAN DE AND 0. MOESSING.
HAIR CLIPPER.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HERMAN B. SANDE AND OTTO MOESSING, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNORS TO MOORE ELECTRIC CORPORATION, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
HAIR-CLIPPER.
Application filed January 18, 1919.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HERMAN B. SANDE and Orro Monssinc, former subjects of the Emperor of Germany, who have declared our intention of becoming citizens of the United States, and residents of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in HairClippers, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements 1n hair clippers and has for its object the provision of an improved construction of this character which is compact in form and simple and eiiicient in operation.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1, is a side view of a hair clipper embodying the invention,
Fig. 2, a top plan view of the same,
Fig. 3, a section taken substantially on line 3-3 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 4, a section taken substantially on line H of Fig. 3.
The preferred form of construction, as illustrated in the drawings, comprises the usual cutter head 5 having the usual reciprocating cutter blade 6 thereon and the usual removable guard 7 for protecting said blade. The cutter blade 6 is operated by the usual rocker arm 8 connected by a link 9 with a lever 10 fulcrumed in an opening 11 leading into a casing 12 mounted upon the usual handle 13 of the clipper. The lever 10 is provided with a central hub 14 surrounding its fulcrum, and the recess or opening 11 1s provided with a central portion nicely fitting the sides of said hub, the sides of said opening 11 being divergent or flaring forward and back from said central cylindrical portion to permit of scillation of said lever. The lever 16 is provided at its inner end with a slot 15 engaging a crank pin 16 on a worm wheel 17 mounted in casing 12, as shown,
Specification of Letters Fatent.

and meshing with the usual worm 18. The usual socket 19 leads into casing 12 to permit of the insertion and connection of the usual flexible shaft with the worm 18. A removable closure plate 20 is provided to permit of the assembling and inspection of the working parts.
By this arrangement it will be observed that the cutter blade 6 will be reciprocated in the usual manner by the operation of worm wheel 17 in the usual manner. However, it will be observed that the lever 10, which serves as a connection between the worm wheel 17 and the cutter blade 6, entirely fills the opening in casing 12, thus preventing the entry of hair clippings or other minute particles into the interior of casing 12. By this arrangement, the operating parts may be made to operate smoothly and without noise, and clogging thereof by the entry of the hair clippings or other foreign matter is prevented.
While we have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying our invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. lVe, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail ourselves of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A hair clipper comprising a cutting head; a reciprocating cutting blade on said head; a rocker arm operating said blade; a handle for said cutting head extending at an angle thereto; a casing on said handle; a worm wheel in said casing; a worm in said casing meshing with said worm wheel; a socket for receiving a flexible shaft to drive said worm; a lever mounted on said casing and operatively connected with said worm wheel, there being an opening in the inner end of said casing through which said lever passes, said opening being provided with a central cylindrical portion and divergent sides leading from the forward and rear sides of said cylindrical portion; a lever fulcrumed in names tothis specification in the presence of said opening and provided with a hub fittwo subscribing witnesses.
ting the cylindrical portion thereof and said HERMAN B. SANDE. lever oscillating between said divergent OTTO MOESSING.
5 sides; and a link connecting said lever with Witnesses:
said rocker arm, substantially as described. JOSHUA R. H. Form,
In testimony whereof we have signed our HELEN F. LILLIS.
