DEVICE FOR MAKING BUTTER PADS.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, RUDOLPH Knssmin, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Making Butter Pads, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in devices for making butter pads.

One of the objects of the invention is to provide a simple, convenient and inexpensive device, for making butter pads, that can be sold at a relatively low price and which is especially well adapted for household use.

Another object is to provide a device which will simultaneously make a small number of butter pads at one operation, which pads will be uniform in size and shape.

Other, further and more particular objects of the invention will become readily apparent, to persons skilled in the art. from a consideration of the following description when taken in conjunction with the drawing. wherein Figure 1 shows a plan view of the device.

Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.

In both views the same reference characters indicate similar parts.

The mold consists of a rectangular frame 5 consisting of a metal strip joined at its ends and provided with cross partitions 6 and T to provide a plurality of matrices 8, 9, 10 and 11 within each of which to form a pad.

The frame is provided with a handle 12 secured thereto by solder, or the like. as at 13. The frame and partitions are approximately as wide as the thickness of the pads to be formed within the matrices and described the other dimensions or boundaries of the pads.

A knife or blade 14, substantially as large in plan as the frame 5, is pivoted to the handle 12, as at 15, by its handle 16. An extension 17 to the handle forms a convenient means for moving the blade 14 with respect to the frame 5. The extension is perforated, as at 18, to provide means for Specification of Letters Patent.

supporting the device on a nail, or the like. On the handle 12 a button 19 is fixed for more conveniently holding the frame while the knife is being moved to sever the pads from a block of butter.

The use and operation of the device is as follows The rectangular frame is about the dimensions of the standard cube of butter weighing one pound. The frame is pressed into the butter until the butter appears even with its upper margin, with the blade below the frame and removed laterally therefrom, as shown in Fig. 1.

The button 19 is now held by the left hand of the operator and the handle 17 is moved on the pivot 15, bringing the blade 14 toward the frame until it fully underlies the frame and the butter pads thus severed from the cube of butter.

The blade then serves as a bottom for the receptacle containing the pads to facilitate carrying it from place to place or it may immediately be returned to its former position and the operation repeated, after removing the pads from the respective matrices.

Instead of pressing the frame into a cube of butter to make the pads, the device may be placed on a table with the blade forming its bottom and butter, or other plastic material may be pressed into the matrices to mold the pads, by use of a knife spatula, or the like, and the blade may then be removed to more conveniently eject the pads.

lVhile I have shown herein one embodiment of my invention, it is manifest that changes may be made in the arrangement and configuration of the parts within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. A. pad making device comprising a frame made of relatively thin strips of metal and having a handle extending from one side; a series of partitions within the frame made of similar metal, to provide a plurality of matrices; a plate underlying said frame. having a handle pivoted to the frame handle, whereby to move the plate toward and from the frame' 2. A pad making device comprising a rectangular frame made of relatively thin strips of material and having cross partitions forming a plurality of rectangular 5 matrices or molds Within the frame; a thin flat handle extending from the frame; a blade rectangular in form and substantially equal in size to the frame underlying the frame and having an integral handle extending therefrom pivoted to the handle of the frame.
