Description

E (LHENTSCHEL. DISTRIBUTING ROLLER FOR PRINTIN G PRESSES.
Pat outed Nov. 8,1921.
yu 5- 7 r INVE NTOR MK ATTORNEY is extended beyond the side frame. considered unnecessary to illustrate the com- PATENT OFFICE EDWARD 0'. HENTSCHEL, 0F CLEVELAND, 0
DISTRIBUTING-ROLLER FOR PRINTING-PRESSES.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known-that I, EDWARD O. HENT- SCHEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Distributing-Rollers for Printing-Presses, of which the followingjsa specification.
This invention relates to distributing rollers for printing presses, and has for its object to provide improved means for producing the longitudinal or axial traverse of a distributing roller in an inking mechanism, whereby the ink is distributed over the inking rolls in a well understood manner.
, The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of the device. Figl2 is a section on the line 22 of Fig. Fig. 3 is a top plan View of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a detail of'an eccentric block which works in the channel of a lever, and Fig. 5 is a sec tion on the line 5-5 of Fig. 2.
In the drawings 6 indicates a part of the lower side frame of a press, and 7 is a distributing roller mounted on its shaft 8 wIhich t is plete frame andother mechanism of a as the invention may be applied to different types of presses and the manner of application will be evident toanyone skilled in the art.
A bracket 9 is bolted to the frame 6, under the extended end 8 of the shaft of the dispress,
. tributing roller and constitutes a supportfor a. fixed rod 10 to which is secured, by a set screw 11, abracket 12 which supports the mechanism to be described. A rotary shaft 13 forming a part of the operating mechanism of the press, extends through a bearing in the lower part of the bracket 12 and carries a pinion 14 which meshes with a. gear 15 mounted on a stud 16 on the bracket, said gear 15 carrying an'eccentric pin 17 provided with a lock 18 which fits Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed March 1, 1921.
the same Patented Nov. 8, Serial No, 448,798.
in a channel 19 in the lower end of a lever 20 which is fulcrumed on a pin 21 secured to the bracket 12; The upper end of the lever 20 carries a block 22, mounted thereon by a pin 23, and this block fits in a grooved collar 24 which isattached by a screw 25 to the extended end of the shaft 8 of the distributing roller.
W hen the shaft 13 rotates, in the ordinary' operation of the press, the gear 15 is turned by the pinion let and the eccentric pin 1?. by-its travel in the channel 19, oscillates the lever on its fulcrum 21, and the upper end of the lever by its connection with the grooved collar 23 shifts the shaft 8 and the distributing roller back and forth axially, while permitting the roller to rotate, and accordingly the roller travels along the inking rollers in the usual manner of a distributing roller.
e movement hasjthe advantage of simpllcity as compared with other devices for purpose, and may be applied to various types of presses by suchobvious modifications as are necessary to accommodate it to local conditions.
I claim:
The combination of a distributing roller having a shaft and a grooved collar thereon, a fixed rod extending transverse to the axis of the shaft, a bracket supported on said rod, a lever fulcrumed on the bracket and aving an operating connection with the collar, an operating shaft extending through and having a bearing in the bracket, a pinion carried by said operating shaft, a gear journaled on the bracket and in mesh with the pinion, and an eccentric connection between the gear and the lever, to vibrate the latter.
In testimony whereof I affix signature in presence of two witnesses.
EDXVARD O. HE NTSCHEL.
