Original appileation filed September 4 1920, Seria1' No. 408,376. Divided. and this application filed Be it known th'atI, FRIT FI'NOKH, adazen' of the German Republic, and resident of Essen, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Barrel-Recoil Guns, (for which l have filed application in Germany, filed August 22, 1918,) of-which the following is a'specification.
This invention relates to barrel recoil guns and the object of the invention is toenable the .gunsof railway guns which are to be made or already existent naval guns to be used on a naval carriage or railway carriage without important alterations being made in the'gun barrels and cradles. 1
This application is a division of my application Serial No. 408,376 now Patent No.
The various features of the invention will be more particularly described with referaccompanying drawings" in 'which: r I
"the left,
. and,
35 i illustrated in Fig. 4.
In the drawings the reference character Figure 1' is a side elevation of the barrel recoil gun showing the parts pertaining to the present invention, r
Fig. 2 is a view of Fig. .3 is a plan view of the structure shown in Fig. 1, V e
:Fig. 4.is a side elevation partly in section 1 of the structure illustrated in Fig. 1 but altered according to the invention,
F ig. 5 isa section 0n'li ne-.5 5 of Fig. 4,
F ig. 6 a plan viewifof'the structure A indicates'a gun barreljvhich' is carried by cradle H; Rigidly mounted on the cradle and at one end thereof is a pair of trunnions J. The cradle 'Hfalso carries a memberh,
in which the cylinder K of a recoil brake .and running gear is attached in an easily detachable manner. The "corresponding piston rod 7: can be attachedto a horn m.
on aring M rigidlyfattached to'the gun bar-.
rel. On the member'fh/ an' eye]; is mounted fora purpose to be hereinafter described.
When-the'cradle H together with, the gun,
barrel, brake andthe like islu sed for a naval gun, these parts. are put together-in the m anner shown in Figs. 1 to The trunnions J then lie I atithe end of the cradle Which'is next to the innzzle of the gun barrel,

. and the elevating'gea'r is attached to theeye it? If on the other hand the arrangement shown in Figs. 4.- to'6 is to be built into a 1 railway gun carriage, the cradle H is in- I serted in the frame of the gun. carriage. in a reversedposition (see Figs. a to 6);.
The end of'the' cradle which carries the trunnions J is then located in the vicinityof cylinder which is provided with'a stufling box for the rod 11: i's-turned tow'ardthehorn m of the ring M. Furthermore the rod 7 0 is lengthened by a piece screwed to it and attached to the horn. m ;When the cradle H is used on va frailway gun carriage, the ring. M may bear agalnst' the cradle Hwhen the gun is in the 1 V fi ringposition, or if the distance of the trunnionsJ from the breech end of the gun'barrel is to be increased and thepreponderant weight in front of the parts oscillating about j the trunnionsis to be reduced, a ring N may befinserte'dbetween 'therear end of the cradle H and the ring M and be attached to e.
the cradle. The ring N is-provided with a projection n which carries an eye, a for: 9 i
the attachment of'the elevating gear and has a boring n for the rodsl o Z2 The last descrlbed arrangement isspecially suited for the conversion of existing'navalguns.
Having thus described my invention, what I Icla-imis:
e 1. A. barrel'recoll gun which comprises a gun barrel, a'cra'dle therefor, a'pairof trun- V nions carried'by said.c'radle, said cradle b ing reversible to "vary. the distance" between the 1- .trunnionsfan'd the'breechend of thegun 2. A barrel-reco lgun which comprises a barrel.
gunbarrel, a cradle therefor, apair'of trunk,
nions carried by saidcradle, a recoil device, means on said gun barrel for connection ioofiifi i with said recoil device, additional means on SalClgHIl barrel for enabling a gun elevatingbeing reversible 5 on the Essen, 1921 V 'mechanismtojbeattached thereto saidfcradle gun barrelfor the;
