T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, BERTHA B. Bone, a citizen of the United States, residing at ban Die -o, in the county of San Diego and State of balifornia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in buckles for use upon straps, strings, ropes, garments, etc., with or with out being permanently attached thereto, and so arranged as to hold tight by placing goods through the two loops while doubled and held securely by friction.

The invention comprises a simple and efficient device of this character, having various details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.

My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which:

Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter: I

A designates a buckle made up of two rectangular looped portions, which have hinged connections D. Said loops are without tongues as commonly employed upon buckles for engagement with apertures in straps to showing beheld, the buckle being adapted to be applied to any strap,.belt or other article to be held, and not permanently attached thereto.

One end X of the strap to be held by the buckle 1s passed over the free end of the loop B and through the loop C, as shown, after which the other end Z of the strap is passed through the two loops as illustrated, thence over the end of the loop C. By pulling upon the port1ons Z of the strap adjacent to the buckle, the natural pull which would come upon the same when the strap is placed about an object will cause the two loops to be held frictionally together in the manner shown in the drawings, and the strap pre vented from slipping. By the provision of an apparatus embodying the features of my invention, it will be noted that a simple and efficient device is provided, which may be attached to straps, strings, ropes or any other article without being permanently held thereto, and serves as a simple and ellicient means for holding the strap in different adjusted positions. W hat I claim to be new is:

A buckle comprising two approximately identical substantially rectangular frames, the corresponding sides of which are hint;- edly held together by a closely fitting flat embracing sleeve, and so proportioned that when the ends of a belt are inserted upwardly through the two frames and passed over the upper and under the lower at their sides opposite the hinge, the stress eXertec by the belt will hold the sleeve in engagement with the exterior of the belt, and auto matically relatively position the frame into gripping relation irrespective of which is the outward frame.
