JOHN V. PERRIN, OF LYNN, IrLiSSACHUSETTS.
TICKET-HGLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent. P ignfgfl ()Qt. 11 lggL Application filed September 7, 1920. Serial No. 408,666.
My invention relates to ticket holders of that class which are applied to the backs of car seats and it has for its object to provide an improved ticket holder of this kind.
With this end in view my invention consists of a ticket holder for car seats made from a' single piece of sheet material bent to conform to the shape of the seat and com prising a panel adapted to fit fiatwise against the side of the seat having an integral later ally projecting flap at its top adapted to be fastened fiatwise against the edge of the seat, the tickets, being slid into position under the panel and held by the latter in position against the seat back. A holder having this construction and mode of opera tion has the advantage that it presents no projections liable to become entangled with the clothing of the occupant or occupants of the seat and, moreover, the tickets are held flatwise against the side of the seat so that they cannot be broken or accidentally displaced. Other "features of my invention are hereinafter pointed out.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the upper portion of a car seat equipped with my improved ticket holder.
Fig. 2 is a plan view oi my improved ticket holder.
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the ticket holder shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Fig. 4 is a section on line i i of Fig. 3, the seat back being indicated by dotted lines.
Fig. 5 shows a modification.
My improved holder, as shown in Figs. 1 to 4:, inclusive. is made from a single piece of sheet metal bent to provide a panel 1 adapted to fit fiatwise against the cushion side 2 of the back of car seat, said panel having at its top a pair of laterally projecting flaps 3 adapted to fit flatwise against-theedge of the seat back 2 and to occupy positions between the usual cleat 4; and the edge of back 2. The Ea 3 are formed with holes 5v through t ieni to receive two oi": the screws {5 by which the cleat is fastened in place. As will be clear these two scr .ws also fasten the holder securely in place.
The panel 1 is formed with a' slot 7 therethrough which is somewhat greater in length than the width of the tickets the holder is to accommodate. and the material of panel 1 at one-side oi the slot 7 is oil-setrelatively to'tne material of said panel at the opposite side of said slot. This oil set portion of the panel 1 is indicated a 8. Most car seats are covered with plush that is supported by cushioning material incorporated within the seat back so that the latter is more or less yielding and a ticket may be readily entered in slot '7 and pushed down so that its lower end occupies a position be tween panel 1 and the plush. The oil-set portion 8 holds the plush back so that it cannot close slot 7, protects the plush at the point of greatest wear and provides asinooth surface over which the end of the ticket slides freely as it is being entered in slot 7. Also. the oil-setting of the portion 8 provides a pocket within which the tickets are confined so that they cannot be displaced sidewise. In Fig. i a ticket in position within the holder is indicated by dotted lines at T.
The holder may also be used bv sliding the tickets under the lower portion of the panel 1 as indicated by dotted lines at T in Fig. 1. v
The holder shown in Fig. 5 is constructed as above described except that the holder of said Fig. 5 is made with a single flap 3* formed with a single screw hole My invention provides a ticket holder of simple, inexpensive and eilicient construction, which is particularly adapted for advertising purposes as shown in the drawings. The panel 1 is preferably made of a size and shape to have an advertisement printed or embossed thereon and the position of the holder immediately in front of the passenger, or passengers using it makes practically impossible for the latter to i'ail to see and read the at vertiseinent.
What I claim is:
1. A. ticket holding: attachment of the character described consisting of a single piece of sheet metal bent to provide a panel adapted to fit llatwise against the cush on side otthe back of a car seat and an integral laterally projecting flap at the upper end of said panel adapted to be fastened iiatwisc against the edge of said back, said panel being; :tornied with a ticket receiving hole throughv which the ticket is shoved edgewise into position between the panel and the cushion side of the seat, so that it is yieldingly clamped against the inner side of the panel by said cushion.
2. A ticket holder of the character described consisting of a single piece of sheet metal bent transversely to provide a panel adapted to fit tiatwise against the side of the back or a car seat and to hold in position against the latter a ticket inserted under said panel, and an integral laterally projecting flap at the upper end of said panel adapted to be fastened flatwise against the edge of said back, said panel being formed with a ticket receiving slot, the portion of said panel at one side of said slot being inwardly off-set relatively to the portion of said panel at the opposite side of said slot to cause said inwardly off-set portion to hold the material of the cushion side of the seat back away from said opposite side.
3. A ticket holding attachment of the character described consisting exclusively of a single piece of sheet metal bent to provide a panel adapted to fit flatwise against the cushion side of the back of a car seat and an integral laterally projecting flap at the upperend of said panel adapted to be fastened flatwise against the edge of said back,
said panel being formed with a ticket receiving opening and having the portion of said panel immediately above said opening inwardly off-set relatively to the portion of the panel at the opposite side of said opening so as to provide a pocket for the upper part of a ticket whose lower end portion has been shoved edgewise through said opening into position between the lower part of the panel and the cushion side of the seat.
4. The combination with the back ofa car seat provided at its edge with a cleat fastened to said back by screws or the like, of a ticket holder consisting of a single piece of sheet metal bent transversely to provide a panel adapted to fit fiatwise against the side of said seat back, and an integral laterally projecting flap at the upper end of said panel fitted flatwise against the edge of said back and disposed between said edge and said clea-t, said flap being formed with a hole through it for the reception of one of the cleat fastening screws by which the holder is secured in position on said back, and Raid panel being formed with a horizontal ticket receiving slot with the portion of said panel above said slot inwardly off-set to hold the material of the seat away from the slot and to prevent the upper portion of a ticket from being bent outwardly when in sorted edgewise in said slot.
5. A ticket holding attachment of the character described consisting of a single piece of sheet metal bent to provide a panel adapted to fit flatwise against the cushion side of the back of a car seat and an integral laterally projecting flap at the upper end of said panel adapted to be fastened flatwise against the edge of said back, said panel be ing formed with a horizontal ticket receiving slot and having the portion thereof immediately above said slot inwardly off-set relatively to the material of the panel at the lower side of the said slot so as to provide a pocket for the ticket having a shoulder at each side thereof for holding the ticket against lateral displacement.
