RADIATOR-DRAINING'ATTACHMENT FOR AUTOMOBILES.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, Gnonen J. Knaxznn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Port lVashington, in the county of ()zaukee and State of lVisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Radiator-Draining Attachments for Automobiles, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my present invention is the provision of a simple, easily applied and highly convenient radiator drain attachment for automobiles, more particularly Ford automobiles.

To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification Figure l is a fragmentary front elevation showing my attachment as applied to an automobile.

Fig. 2 is an enlarged broken plan view of the attachment per 56.

Fig. 3 is a detail rear elevation showing the manner in which the rock shaft of the attachment is coupled to the plug handle of the drain cock.

Fig. 4 is a detail perspective showing the coupling head on said rock shaft.

Fig. 5 is a detail perspective of the bracket in which the rock shaft is journaled and supported.

Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings.

My novel attachment is illustrated in Fig. 2. and in order to apply the attachment to the automobile the usual drain cock of the automobile radiator is removed and its place is taken by the cock 1 illustrated in Fig. 2 as part of my attachment. Or if preferred the drain cock 1 in connection with the automobile radiator 2 may be left in position, and the rock shaft 3 of the attachment may be coupled to the handle 4 on the plug of the cock. Also in furtherance of my invention the nut 5 by which the standard 6 of a lamp 7 is secured in a bracket 8 of the automobile is removed, and the bracket 9 of my improvement is placed on the pendent threaded portion of the standard 6 and is then secured in position by the said nut 5. trated the said bracket 9 is of general right angle form and is provided in one of its arms with an aperture 10 for the purpose stated while its other arm is twisted as indicated by 1.1 and is provided near its lower end with a transverse aperture 12. The rock shaft 3 is journaled in said aperture 12 and is supported by said bracket 9. At its outer end the said rocr shaft 3 is provided with an appropriatehandle 13, and at its inner end said rock shaft 3 is provided with a head 14. The said head 14 includes a rear flange or abutment 15 and a forwardly projecting bifurcated portion 16, the reduced terminals 17 of which are readily bendable. Manifest-1y when the portion 16 of the head 14 is arranged at one side of the plug handle 4, the terminals 17 of the head may be made to straddle the inner edge of the handle 4 so as to bind the outer edge of the handle 4 against the abutment 15. In this manner the rock shaft 3 may be expeditiously and easily and strongly connected to the plug handle 4 and in such manner that there is no liability of disconnection taking place.

hen my novel attachment is applied in the manner described it will be readily apparent that by manipulating the handle 13 and turning the shaft 3 through a part of a revolution, an automobile owner is enabled to quickly and conveniently open the cock land thereby drain water from the radiator 2 as is desirable in the Winter season. 7

It will also be apparent from the foregoing that my novel attachment is readily applicable to Ford automobiles such as at present in use with the assistance of no tool other than an ordinary wrench. It is within the purview of my invention to place the attachment on the market as made up of the rock shaft 3 and the bracket 9 alone or as made up of a drain cock 1. a rock shaft 3 coupled to the drain cock and a bracket 9.

Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is

The herein described drain cock attachment for automobiles, comprising a rock shaft having at one end a coupling head provided with a flange to abut against the edge of a cock-plug handle and parallel spaced portions reaching forwardly from one edge of the flange and having free ends whereby the head is adaptedto straddle the plug and said portions are adapted to be -hooked around the handle of the plug and confine said handle against the flange and couple the rock shaft to the plug, in combination with a right angle bracket-with a pendent twisted arm in which the rock shaft is journaled', and a horizontal arm apertured 10 for fixture on the pendent portion of-a lamp standard.
