Description

A. M. LORENTZ.
MILK STRAINER. APPLICATION HLED. nov;20, 1920.
Patented Oct. 11, 1921.
HHHHU I I. l
UNITED STATES ALBERT. Ml LoRnivTz, or MoMECHEN, wns'r VIRGINIA.
MILK-srnAInnn. 7
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALnnnrM. LORENTZ, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of McMechen, county of Marshall, and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful. Improvements in Milk-Strainers, of which'the following is a specification.
This invention relates to strainers for milk and other liquids, and it has for its primary object to provide a simple, inexpensive, eflicient and sanitary strainer structure in which is employed a strainer cloth and simple means whereby said cloth is removably secured in place. 7
A further object is to provide, in a strainer of. the character mentioned, a strainer-cloth clamping and supporting device which may be conveniently introduced into and removed from operative position as occasion requires; also to provide such a device which supports the strainer cloth not only in a position in which a maximum area of effective straining surface is presented, but also in a position in which sediment or particles of foreign matter are effectually prevented from finding lodgment upon said straining surface or area.
In describing the invention in detail, ref erence is herein had to the accompanying drawings, in which--' Figure 1 is a central vertical section of the invention, and- Fig. 2 is a sideelevation of the removable cloth support and clamp.
Referring to said drawings, 1 indicates the tapered body portion of a funnel-like casing having an'open upper end portion 2 and an open lower end portion or flange 3, the latter being of reduced diameter and of plain tubular form. A cylindrical metal ring 4 is adapted to be-introduced within said tubular portion or flange 3 to a position in which a strainer cloth 5 is firmly clamped between it and said flange, said ring being made of such less external diameter than the internal diameter of said flange that the accommodation of such cloth between said elements is permitted.
A bail-like arch 6 having its opposite ends rigidly attached, as by soldering, to said ring 4 at diametrically opposite points constitutes a support over which the cloth is stretched and maintains the latter in an upright substantially conical position wherein it presents an effective strainlng surface of Specification 01 Letters Patent.

considerably greater area than that circumscribed by said ring 4. Due to the fact that said arch rises to a considerable height above said ring, the said straining surface of the cloth is so sharply inclined that particles of foreign matter in the milk or other liquid being strained will not lodge on said surface, but will be carried into the acute angle 7 formed between said cloth and said. casing.
In practice, the cloth 5 is laid loosely over the top of the arch 6 with the outer edges of the former depending skirt-like below the lower edge of the ring 4, after which the ring and cloth are together introduced upward through the tubular flange 3, the ring being. forced to its place within the embrace of said flange. Thus, the cloth is stretched through frictional engagement with the flange as it is forced upward through the restricted space between said flange and said ring. To remove the cloth, the ring is forced out of the embrace of the flange by downwardly directed force applied to the top of the arch.
W hat is claimedis- 1. A strainer comprising a casing having an open substantially cylindrical lower end portion, a metal ring adapted to be removably disposed within the embrace of said end portion, an upright arch carried by said ring, and a strainer cloth overlying said arch and said ring and clamped between said ring and said end portion, said ring and cloth being adapted to be introduced to cloth clamping position within said end portion through the bottom of the latter whereby stretching of thecloth is effected.
2. A strainer comprising a casing having an open lower end, a metal ring adapted for introduction within the embrace of said lower end, an upright arch carried by said ring, a cloth overlying said arch and having its edge portion clamped between said ring and said casing, said arch supporting said cloth in a position presenting a substantially conical straining area, and said cloth being stretched by the act of introducing the archcarrying ring in an upward direction with the cloth supported thereon.
3. A strainer comprising a funnel-like casing having an open substantially cylindrical lower end portion, a ring adapted to be removably mounted within said lower end portion, an upright arch carried by said ring, a strainer cloth having its middle portion supported by said arch and having its outer edge portion depending about said ring and adapted to be firmly clamped be tween the latter and'said lower end portion, said ring being insertible through the bottom of said lowerend portion so that stretching of the arch-supported portion of the cloth is effected by the act of inserting.
