To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FERDINAND J. TILL- MAN, a citizen of the United States of America, a resident of the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Hair-Cutting Device, of which the following is a specification.

The primary object of this invention is to provide a hair cutting device containing a comb and a cutting blade; said cutting blade being normally held out of alinement for cutting engagement with said comb by spring tension so as the comb can be used to hold the hair in position for cutting without being interfered with in any way by the cutting blade, there being a guide to bring the cutting blade in cutting alinement with thecomb, when so desired.

Another object of the invention is to provide means for an interchangeablecutting blade and an interchangeable comb.

Another object of the invention is to provide means for moving said cutting blade and comb into a position to be used independently of each other that is, the cutting blade can be used for shaving and the comb can be used for combing the hair, without one interfering with the other when so desired.

Other and further objects of this invention will appear in this specification and will be pointed out in the appended clalms, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

Figure 1 is a front view showing the hair cutting device being held apart by the spring shape handles.

Fig. 2 is a front view showing the device closed in resistance to the spring shape handles.

Fig. 6 is a view of the cutting device moved in an open position so as to be used independently but with the comb and cutting blade removed.

Referring to the drawings. 1 designates a spr ng steel handle containing a rounded sprlng end 2, and loosely pivoted at 3 to another spring steel handle 1 that is rounded at 5 and containing an end 6 that butts against a pin 7 on the handle 1. spring handles are so shaped that they normally have a tendency to force open through their curve spring ends 2 and 5 as shown in Fig. 1 and also have a tendency to be forced out of alinement as shown in Fig. 3, but they are held in position as shown in Fig.1 and Fig. 3 by guide 8 that is loosely pivoted at 9 to the handle 1 and contains a stopping abutment 10 for limiting the outward movement of the handle 4. This guide 8 is held 1n the position as shown in Fig. 1 by spring 11 that fastens to a stud 12 one the guide 8 and a stud 13 on the handle 1. This spring has a tendency to hold the guide against a pin 14: on handle swung into the position shown in dotted lines of Fig. 1 when not in use, so that spring 11 will hold it against the pin 15. The upper end of the handle 1 has a thinner end 16, against which the comb 17 is adapted to be set. 18 is a plate that is adapted to be set over the comb 17, and 19 and 20 are screws that fit loosely through the holes 21 and 22 of the plate 18 and fits loosely through the holes 23 and 24 of the comb l7 and are adapted to screw through the threaded holes 25 and 26 of the handle 1, thereby securely holding the comb against said handle.
