UNI-TED STA ESi PATENT OFFICE.
HENRIETTA BEHR, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA,
.-KITCHEN UTENSIL.
Be it known that I, I'IENRIETTA BEHR a citizen of. Germany residing at the city of Philadelphia,. county of Philadelphia; and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Kitchen Utensil of which thefollowingis a specification.
This invention generally stated relates to kitchen utensils and has more especial relation to a device of this kind which be The ltading obI'ct of the present inven tion'may be said to residein the providing of a simple and inexpensive form ofjdevice calculated to be held in one hand of the operator to enable the new to stone cherries in a rapid and eflicient manner. Other and further objects relate to the provision of general details of construction and arrangement and combination of parts for attaining the results sought by said leading object.
The invention consists of the improvements hereinafter described and finally claimed.
The nature, characteristic features and scope of the invention will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part thereof in which Figure 1, is a perspective view of a device embodying features of the present invention and illustrating the manner of using same.
Fig. 2 is a centralsectional view thereof.
Fig. 3, is a fragmentary view illustrating plunger locking means, and p 7 Fig. 4-, is a similar view illustrating a detail of construction of the plunger.
For the purpose of illustrating my invention I have shown in the accompanying drawings one form thereof which is at present preferred by me, since'the same has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results,v although it isto be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of the instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
In the drawings 10 designates a barrel the lower end of which is interiorly provided with an annular shoulder 11 and the upper end of which is exteriorly provided with a lug 12. Slidable through barrel 10 is a Specification of Letters Patent. 7 Patented Sept 20, 1921. Application filed Ju i, 1921. Serial Nb. 481,743.
plunger 13 provided at its top with an annularo thumb-piece 14:. Intermediate the top andbottom of said plunger is a projection which may be a pin 15 driven through the plunger. Coiled around the plunger between said projection and shoulder 11 of barrel 10 is a spiral spring 16. In order to secure the spring pressed plunger against accidental displacement a cap 17 having an inverted L-shaped slot 18 is fitted over the barrel-v top and caused to engage lug 12 thereon bayonet-joint fashion. The lower end of theplunger is slightly concaved as at 19 and slitted as at 20. The concaved and slitted portions serveto provide a plurality of annular cutting edges and the concaved portion serves to provide a socket for engaging over and impelling a cherry-stone downward through the fruit. Fixed to barrel 10 is an arm of angular formation so that it extends first at right angles to the barrel as at 21, then in parallelism therewith as at 22 and terminates in a part 23 which curves in a direction toward and below the barrel. Carriedby the curved end of said arm is a dish-shaped receptacle 24 having an aperture 25 therethrough in alinement with plunger 13. Fixed to barrel 10 intermediate the above described arm and cap 17 is a finger-piece 26 which extends laterally upon each side of the barrel. The ends of the finger-piece are slightly curved downwardly to more readily accommodate the fingers of the user.
In practice the user holds the device in one hand and operates the plunger thereof with the thumb employing the other hand for placing the fruit to be pitted within receptacle 24. In. use the index finger and I have in the present instance shown and described'the preferred embodiment thereof which has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of modification in various particulars without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its advanta es. 1
Vhat I claim is 1. A device of the character stated comprising a barrel provided with a fingerpiece, a'spring-pressed plunger mounted within said barrel one end of which is provided with a thumb piece and the other end with a fruit penetrating and stone impelling portion and a dish-shaped receptacle carried by said barrel which receptacle is provided with an aperture in alinement with said plunger. j
2. A device of the character stated comprising a barrel provided with a fingerpiece, a spring pressed plunger mounted within said barrel one end of which is provided with a thumb-piece and the other end with a fruit penetrating and stone impelling portion, a dish-shaped receptacle having an apertured bottom carried by said barrel and a cap having a bayonet-joint connection with said barrel for maintaining said plunger in position. V
3. A device of the character stated comhaving an apertured bottom carried by the.
curved end of said arm.
4. A device of the character stated comprising a barrel provided with a finger-piece, a plunger mounted within the barrel'one end of which is provided with a thumb piece and the other end with a fruit penctrating and stone impelling portion, a spring within said barrel and coiled around said plunger for returning said plunger to normal position and a dish-shapedrecepta'cle having an apertured bottom carriedrby said barrel.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name. a
HENRIETTA BEHR.
