To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, FRANK W. RICHEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, Cook county, Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Clips, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention has to do with certain improvements in display clips and. the like such as are used for displaying price tags or symbols in stores and the like. Clips of this type are used, among other uses, for displaying the price of goods displayed on the shelves of stores, or for displaying the nature of such goods. For example, in many stores it is customary to group the goods on the shelves in such a way that the goods on one section or portion of the shelf are all of the same price or classification, those on some other section or portion of the shelf being at some other price or classification. The clip of the present invention is very well adapted for displaying these price or classification tags, and for supporting them properly in position on the ed es of the shelves.

%ne of the objects of the present invention is to rovide a clip of this type which shall be of such construction that it may be readily attached to and detached from the edge of the shelf, so that as occasion arises the clip may be attached to the shelf or re moved therefrom, according to the changing nature or condition of the goods referred to.

Another object of the invention is to so design the clip that it may be manufactured from a minimum amount of material, and with a minimum wastage thereof, both of these factors bearing on the cost of manufacture, and the amount of material required.

Another object of the invention is to so construct the clip that the price or symbol cards or tags may be very easily inserted and removed to and from the clip, thereby making it possible to effect changes of this nature from time to time without the necessity of removing the clip from the edge of the shelf to which itis attached.

Another object of the invention is to provide a display clip of such construction that a protecting window may be provided in front of the card.

Referring to the drawings:

Figure 1 shows a simple form of l nk from which one form of the clip may be stamped or formed;

In the clip shown in the figures a rectangular blank 5 is first cut out so as to provide the tongues 6 and 7 on one side of the blank, and the tongue 8 on its other side; These tongues are then bent outwardly, as shown in perspective in Figs. 2 and 8, the tongue 8 being preferably given a curve as shown in said figure, so as to give it additional resiliency or flexibility. The bending of the tongues into the form shown in Figs. 2 and 3 'may be accomplished either simultaneously with or subsequent to the cutting of the tongues depending upon the convenience of the operator and the form of the machine, if any, which is used in the manufac turing operation.

The tongues 6 and 7 will lie against the surface of the board or shelf to which the clip is attached, the tongue 8 lying against the other surface thereof. Ordinarily the tongues 6 and 7 will lie against the upper surface, and the tongue 8 against the lower surface, but manifestly the use of the device will be optional with the user.

In order to carry the display card, such as a price tag or the like, the flanges 9 and 10 mcy be formed on the clip from the same blank which forms the remaining portions thereof; and these flanges may be formed by simply bending the edge portions of the blank over in the manner clearly shown in F ig. 2. The display card may then be easily slipped into place in the clip as shown in said figure.

It will be observed that I have shown the clip of Fig. 2 with the lower tongue curving upwardly, whereas the upper tongues lie practically at right angles to the plane of the front portion of the clip. By use of this arrangement a practically flat surface is presented for the support of the clip, and the resiliency or pressure is secured chiefly by the curvature of the lower tongue or tongues, In addition to the foregoing advantage, this arrangement makes it possible to use this clip as a display clip independently of any shelf, or the like, so that the clip may be used for displaying a card when the clip rests on the surface of a table or show-case. In this connection it will be observed that the curving of the lower tongue is such as to give the clip a backward tilt when it is set on the upper surface of the table or show-case.

hen a protecting window is to be located in front of the display card, there may be provided a slide 11 having an opening 12 as clearly shown in Figs. 3 and d. The upper and lower edges 13 and 14 of this slide are flanged toward each other, so that the slide may be easily slid over the upper and lower edge portion of the clip itself. The window 15 may be formed from a sheet of glass or mica, as desired.

While I have only a single embodiment of my present invention, still it will be understood that I do not limit myself to the same, except as may do so in the claims.

I claim:

1. As a new article of manufacture, a display'clip of the class described comprising a single rectangular piece of sheet metal having its upper and lower edges folded over adjacent to one face for the provision herein shown and described of card retaining grooves, and having two tongues struck rearwardly from the material of the clip adjacent to its upper edge, and a central tongue struck rearwardly from the material of the clip adjacent to its lower edge and at a point between the two tongues first mentioned, and a window slide having its upper and lower edges flanged rearwardly and toward each other and of a size to embrace the upper and lower portions of the clip between them, said window slide having a central perforation, and a suitable transparent window in the slide and behind the perforation, substantially as described.

2. As a new article'of manufacture, a dis play clip of the class described comprising a single rectangular piece of sheet metal having two of its opposite edges folded over adjacent to one face for the provision of card retaining grooves, and having two tongues struck rearwardly from the ma tcrial of-the clip adjacent to one of its edges, and a central tongue struck rearwardly from I the material of the clip adjacent to the other edge and at a point between the two first mentioned tongues, the first mentioned tongues lying at right angles to the body of the clip, and the second mentioned tongue slanting toward the first mentioned tongues,

substantially as described.
